I am glad that the opera CD is selling well....I listened to one of the clips and it was entertaining.....but since I don't know the source material, I'm not sure if I would enjoy listening to it.....but then again.....I might.
I think you would like the Anouilh play. It takes place at the end of the 19th century, and concerns an aging star of the Parisian theatre with two sons. One is a roué and sophisticated
boulevardier and his younger brother is a rather naive soldier who, called to duty, leaves his pretty young wife Colombe in the care of his mother. The play is about Colombe's involvement in the theatre world as she becomes a leading actress with several lovers in the theatrical company, including her brother-in-law. When the soldier returns, he's greatly disillusioned. Then there's an epilogue taking place backstage some time before the play begins; a pretty young girl delivers flowers backstage where she meets the young son of the star who's a soldier. Did she set him up?
