Having to read a book you dislike once is bad enough.

Amen.

I'm taking a semi-Me day. I think four years of a horrible presidency, a year of Covid, and then a little surgery have caught up with me. I am long overdue for a vacation. But that just isn't in the cards right now. Me days will have to suffice. And they usually do.

Happy Me-Days. I’m taking one or two in the near future.

Hi, John G.

Hi, Jeanne! What will you do on a Me Day? I’d love a massage. Maybe it’s time for that haircut.

This morning, twelve days after being dropped in the post box, my rent and health insurance checks finally cleared the bank. I do not know if Trump's idiot "slow down the mail" postmaster is to blame or inept clerks in two different offices. but that is a huge weight off my chest.

Glad that's solved.

I sent a donation to a charity in Chicago last December and noticed that the check hadn't cleared the bank. In March it finally did. I suspect that was a slow mail problem and not carelessness on the charity's behalf.

Between covid and protests the Chicago post office shut down for several weeks and continued to be weeks behind deliveries during the holidays.  When we were visiting Bryan said it is still bad.

Then I spent a couple of hours sitting outside Starbucks with my friend Rebecca, who is still having a very hard time following the death of her husband last fall.

Vibes of comfort for Rebecca.  It really hasn't been very long.

Thank you, DR Jane.  It’s coming up on 6 months, which is a nanosecond compared to their 41 years of marriage.

DR John G, this was my third reading of The Sun Also Rises and I liked it most this time.  It helped that, since reading it last, we’ve been to Paris 3 times and I knew most of the places where the characters walked and drank.  Also, Ken Burns’ new Hemingway series helped a lot.

DR Ginny, I am glad that you were able to be there for your friend Rebecca.

What a horrible thing to have to go through, and especially during COVID.

Pluto in retrograde in Capricorn.....good for business.....

What are you willing to do to get what you want in life? This is the question Pluto asks now that it’s positioned in methodical, businesslike, no-BS Capricorn. We all have unpleasant aspects to our personalities that we might not like or want to admit to, but this transit won’t let you hide from the truth.

I went to the bank, then bought some falafel take-out. This branch of the bank has a machine that gives you a ticket and another machine that later reads your ticket and tells you how much you must pay. It's $2.50 per 15 minutes. Just as I was about to put my flimsy paper ticket into the slot a gust of wind came up and blew it out of my hand! I looked all over for it, but didn't see it. I reluctantly pressed the LOST TICKET button on the screen, then when nothing happened, the HELP button. Nothing continued to happen. Of course, by this time cars were stacking up behind me and they couldn't get out until I did, and the barrier was blocking my way. Most annoying! Then the welcome sight of a young parking attendant. She was very understanding and did some magic so I could leave WITHOUT having to pay some outrageous lost ticket fee. Yay!

Yes, what do you consider a nice Me Day?

I try to take Sundays as Me days. My needs are simple. I meditate, wash my hair, go out for take-out, then relax at home with a movie. I also love fiction and look forward to time with a good book. Most of all I like to not have to do laundry, cleaning, or errands, and just do whatever I like. Of course, it doesn't always work out that way.

I scheduled a hair appointment for next week, much needed. I, too, would like a massage, but am still sutured. She could work around that, though. I'd love to have lunch with a friend, but just don't feel comfortable with that yet. I'd love to spend a few days at a spa, but don't want to fly, and my allergies are making food choices very limited. No spas for a while methinks. Too bad I don't like camping. I'm not looking for adventure -- I just want to relax and recharge.

Good for business, you say. That may be very welcome to countless businesses around the world who have really beens struggling.

Except for the falafel it sounds like you need another Me Day to make up for this one.

I've been watching a Swedish series, THE RESTAURANT, set in Stockholm in 1945. The ad compares it to DOWNTON ABBEY, but A PLACE TO CALL HOME is a better comparison. Very well done, really solid acting, sets, and so on. It's on Amazon Prime Video, but "leaves" on April 30. I suspect it'll still be there, but with ads or $. Right now it's free. Worth watching.
