We’re going on a dolphin watching boat ride today. If the winds allow.

I can’t begin to whittle down trips into a best vacation. But I can try to come up with a few best moments.

I had my own private balcony in Crete that overlooked the sea. I would read my Proust in the morning while waiting for people to get up. That was special.

The first night on safari when we couldn’t return to our tent because an elephant was eating nearby. We could hear him or her but couldn’t see anything in the pitch black. All of the animals on that trip are treasured. The jeep getting stuck in the mud next to two mating lions. Oh

And incredible sunrise in Greece that had a rainbow at the other end.

Walking for miles and miles around San Francisco as fear of the pandemic was setting in.

Visiting the German Christmas markets with various members of my family.

My first trip to New York and seeing Nine, 42nd Street and My One and Only. Meeting Twiggy and Tommy Tune afterwards. The record shopping, walking for miles.

And I haven’t mentioned Portugal, Brazil or Guatemala, Costa Rica, Hawaii or Chicago. Sailing on the Victory Chimes in Maine, studying wine in Napa Valley or an eating trip to Manhattan (work actually for the latter two).

DR Jrand70, what a horrifying thing to witness. Well, witness after the fact. Maybe just be glad you weren't there a couple of minutes earlier.

I've similarly come upon something that had just happened, though thankfully not for a long time and the memories have receded. But I've never forgotten the shock and sick feeling you get from it.

I've also had occasion to search for news reports of something like that, with no results. It happens. I don't know how some of those things get plastered all over the news, and some seemingly don't make it at all.

The local rag here used to (maybe still does, I dunno) have a "Police Blotter" section where all manner of things, serious and minor, would be reported. But even that seemed to be highly selective. But sometimes, something would show up long after you thought it would.

DR ELMORE I happened to read that the IRS was returning money to early filers who had paid taxes on Unemployment that was later waived......that might be why you got some $$$ from the IRS.
