It's a dark, rainy Monday, but I refuse to cry.

BK, I too love Troilus and Cressida, both Walton's opera and Shakespeare's play, and I agree completel;y about the murky sound of all Chandos recordings. They hire great singers, conductors, and make them inaudible.

I am pleased to announce the publication of MARY PICKFORD, the newest one-person play IN THE HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS collection.

Mary Pickford was the very first movie star.  Also, along with Charlie Chaplin, husband Douglas Fairbanks and  D.W. Griffith, she formed United Artists Pictures.

She, also, starred in the film version of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.

Back in the 1970s, when I was writing my monthly column for CORONET magazine, I was one of the last 2 people to interview Mary Pickford.

My play, MARY PICKFORD, is available in both paperback and Kindle editions, via Amazon and other outlets.

Performance rights are available.

BK, you might like Walton's one-act chamber opera The Bear, written for Benjamin Britten's English Opera Group. Angel/EMI released a recording of the original cast with James Lockhart conducting, and released it on CD with Walton's "Facade" orchestral suite (I prefer the original with speakers) and his Bach adaptation for the ballet "The Wise Virgins." It's a funny one-act based on Chekhov's comedy.

Chandos later redid the opera for their Walton series. I prefer the original.

Shakespeare' plays:
Tragedies

King Lear: my absolute favorite, maybe not as cynical or nihilistic as Troilus and Cressida, another play I love.
Macbeth: witches and desperate ambition! What's not to like?
Measure for Measure: I refuse to call this difficult play a comedy

Comedies
Twelfth Night: close to perfection
Comedy of Errors
The Merry Wives of Windsor: I prefer Verdi's opera Falstaff, which condenses the sprawl to perfection.

Thanks to all for the nice comments on the photos.  In case you couldn't tell they were taken by Esmerelda's father.

I enjoy some Shakespeare....I like what I've read and seen.

My favorite film versions are:

Romeo & Juliet/ Zefferelli
Henry V - Branagh
Richard III - Olivier

Woke up to some incredible thunder, lightning, and rain this morning. Unusual for being so early in the day. I think it’ll be continuing off and on throughout.

I wonder if harried and harridan come from the same root.

I wander as I wonder. But not very far, as the headset cord doesn't have a lot of slack.

I am happy to find that Apple music has ALL of the Walton Troilus versions. I know I have the Chandos set, but who knows what box it's in.

I just found out that a friend of a friend was killed in his driveway while going to get the mail, by a neighbor with his car who didn't like the idea of having a gay couple in the neighborhood.

Sometimes I despair of this world.
