When I was a kid I always thought it was cool to go to the import shop and have my mom buy me the rice paper candy. It was fun to think you were eating (rice) paper.

My friend Dave and I used to be able to find tins of frogs legs at the supermarket when we were in high school....but I haven't seen them around in many, many years.

I still think it's cool!

However, I do wish the old "toys" they would include in the box would come back. I know it's a safety issue now, but the little stickers and temporary tattoos just don't cut it. IMHO.

Of course, there were those times when I would think that all the paper around the candy was made out of rice. Nope!

Bun candy bars, very good! Especially Vanilla Bun!

Grannie used to keep those orange slice candies in the hall candy dish of her house. I always made a beeline for it. Sometimes she had those circus peanut candies...Yecch! I have the candy dish. No orange slices in it now. Just British change.

To all who see these presents, GREETINGS! Many thanks to those who've wished my sinuses well. Oddly, the headache is gone from behind my right eye and is teasing with the left eye. Will pop more sinus tabs a little closer to din-din.

My favorite candy is not store-bought. My favorite candy is the fudge you get when you make it using the recipe on the side of the Hersheys Cocoa can. My mother adds a few tablespoons of peanut butter in the final stir and it's TDF!!!!!!!!!!

(TDF = to die for!)

DR MattH: I'm absolutely appalled with myself. I'd never in a million years have dreamed of posting my "RIP" if I'd even imagined you hadn't watched the "Desperate Housewives" finale when it aired.

I'll get over it, of course, but I wanted you to know there was "some" remorse.

I didn't want to comment on last night's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES since DR MattH had not viewed it yet.

Anyhow SPOLERS FOR LAST NIGHT's SHOW for anyone else who hasn't watched it yet.

I was actually very underwelmed by the death. We were trying to predict who it might be last week. And Rex was the most boring. I almost wish they hadn't been hyping a death on the show.

Also, you guys who were guessing the outcome really made the finale scenes pretty boring (since you got everything right).

Wow. Impressive! While i'm sure most people were stunned, because you guys had guessed the end, it was not suprising.

Also, I thought the show just sort of left things hanging. I was waiting for a true cliffhanger. Instead of the plumber just standing outside the door. I thought he should have walked in, seen zach with the gun at susan and been like "stop it, i am your father". End. Well that is how I would have done it!

I don't watch DH, but I've seen and heard enough that I wonder if this Rex guy actually is dead. Wasn't his death only announced over the phone to the Marcia Cross character?

Hi folks! Not much to say tonight.

Can't say I've ever watched porn as in bought/rented it. Some of todays movies have seemed very much like porn to me.

Snacks. You guys have already mentioned most of my strange ones. My newest is that I've fallen in love with Matza. One of the ladies at work brought me some to try that she had left over from Passover and I can't get enough of it!

I'm off of the onions which is a good thing. I can't handle the salt.

My father was (and may still be) addicted to this stuff:

PENOCHE
The materials needed are:
two cups of brown sugar
1/2 cup of milk
1 tablespoon of butter
1/2 cup of pecan meats
a teaspoon of vanilla.

Put the sugar and milk into a saucepan and stir until the sugar dissolves. After it has boiled for ten minutes, test it. If it forms a soft ball in cold water or if the candy thermometer reads 240', remove from the fire.

Stir in the butter, the chopped nuts and vanilla. When it is cool, cut into squares. If you want to vary the penoche, use one Tablespoon of peanut butter instead of the nut meats.

As for DH: I think Rex AND Mary Alice ought to narrate.

I thought the ending totally wonderful...words, or a gun shot, would have added nothing to the suspense I feel for the coming season.

I wasn't at all convinced Rex would be the one...I thought for sure it would be Paul. Bree now will be, as DRMattH has predicted, on the hook for poisoning Rex. But if anyone ever bothers to do a thorough workup on the tissues/blood samples, she will be vindicated. I want to see George get what's coming to HIM.

Good Evening!

My father ended up firing up the grill tonight for dinner - a couple of NY strips, and some hamburgers. My brother, Mike, came over with his son and daughter, and we all had a very nice sit down dinner. -My first sit down family dinner in a long time.

After dinner, we all watched some "Jeopardy" - Ultimate Tournament of Champions this week. And then the beginning of "Fear Factor".

It was newlywed night on "Fear Factor". The "eating" stunt was truly gross tonight, but, then again, it always is. But I do have to say that the husbands on tonight's show made for some mighty fine eye candy.

I say "penuche", and you say "penoche"...

Penuche was one of the first candy recipes I remember trying out of one of mom's cookbooks. It seemed fairly easy to make. And, to this day, I'm still amazed that at the age of 10 or 11, that I did not burn myself while making the stuff - or any other confection - where I had to test for the various "ball stages" by dropping the hot syrup in cold water.

And, of course, Alton Brown featured a recipe for penuche on his fudge show, I believe.

I think we're missing some steps here , do you put the mixture into a pan and refrigerate it, or leave it to cool on the table ? I must know!!! I must make it,,, NOW~~~~~~~
