I’ve started listening to Forget the Alamo, which is certainly causing a stir in Texas. It’s quite good, and I can see where it’s irritating many, especially in a state where it’s against the law to teach that the whites at the Alamo were anything but heroes. Yet they were hardly that.

I slept solidly until midnight, followed by several lousy hours of tossing and turning and a possible ghostly visitation around 1:45 that freaked me and the cats.

Sometime after 2:00 I went back to sleep, and the rest of the night was restless with three cats and me fighting to be comfortable.

Last night we watched Billy Wilder's One, Two, Three, which is fast and furious fun, everything and more that BK posted about it yesterday. Since I love farce, I don't know how I ever missed this movie or why, once I purchased the DVD, I never before watched it. James Cagney is so brilliant in his long rapid-fire scene in which he's barking orders at everyone in sight for clothes, hats, barber, manicurist, etc. left me wondering how long it took the actor to memorize it all so perfectly. Just like Some Like It Hot, he's matched by a perfect cast of clowns. I knew that Arlene Francis was an actress, but I don't think I ever saw her in anything but game shows. Like Dorothy Provine in It's A Mad, Mad World, she's the epicenter of calm and sense in the madhouse, and she's the perfect wife to Cagney.

The dregs of Hurricane Ida, which I thought was landing yesterday, will hit today and now they're claoiming seven inches of rain. We;ll see, but since it's going to be wet, I'm staying inside.
