Dead tired, too, so I'm going to lie down and welcome a li'l nap to come wrap itself around me.

Sometimes that's easier said than done, but we'll see what happens.

Halloween afternoon greetings!  We’re ready for trick or treaters, but we don’t expect many.  I bought a bag of 80 assorted items and we took out the Snickers for ourselves.  Richard says, “Kids don’t appreciate those.”

I finally got my books autographed. Even thought I was last in line, Sedaris made time for me.

Nice, and I expect he appreciated your patience waiting for him.

From TCB:

Jane, I think I missed answering a question you asked me yesterday.  I had no reaction to either of the initial shots, or the booster.  I take that back, the night I got the booster and the flu shot, I rubbed my arm and it seemed a little sore.

That's great.

I made the vegan snowball cookies early this morning. Honestly, that vegan butter is nasty stuff.

The meringue cookies are a fail; I somehow messed up the egg whites and they wouldn't whip up.

I think vegan mayo is delicious, not so much the cheese.  Is the butter similar to margarine?

I am guessing the egg whites were at room temperature before you began whipping them.  I wonder if the hole in your ceiling had something to do with them not coming out correctly.

Tonight the family is coming over and we'll sit at the end of the driveway and meet the neighborhood kids outside. This will be the first time the whole family will be together sine the Christmas just before the pandemic hit.

By "whole family," I am including Wae-Ling. She hasn't seen GS in almost two years!

This is wonderful :)

Is the entire neighborhood waiting outside for the kids or just something you wisely decided to do?

Manhattan School of Music is staging Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld later this year and Sunday in the Park with George in March. I hope both are available online.

I'm up, I'm up - a bit over eight-and-a-half hours of sleep. I certainly could have done another two.

I suspect Orpheus, like most foreign operettas in opera situations these days, will do the spoken dialoguie in English and the sung lyrics in French, which I think is a dumb shit idea.

It is beautiful here also, DR Jane. A little on the chilly side.

Back from the church gig, some grocery shopping, and then a little special outing.

Skyrock Farm (about half an hour outside the metro area) had a Halloween open house this afternoon. It is a stable and horse training facility. With the added bonus that the owner also dabbles in theater organs, and has amassed quite a collection.

There is a separate barn that houses that collection of theater pipe organs, calliopes, and a carousel. And more carnival paraphanalia than I have ever seen in one spot. There are also player pianos and you name it. A lot of the calliopes play from either rolls or perforated thin wooden slats that are strung together in stacks, and "fed" into the mechanisms.

It was all great fun. The kids in attendance were more into the horses. Also, there's a train that runs around the perimeter of the grounds.

All in all, a lovely afternoon.

My DH is currently the interim music director for a Lutheran church. This morning was their big hurrah with Reformation Sunday.

Here he is with Martin Luther and his 95 Theses reese's pieces.

Funny picture, Singdaw. The daughter of a former supervisor who is Lutheran dressed as the 95 theses one Reformation Day/Halloween.

Now on to Spirits of the Dead. The Roger Vadim opener is pretty dreadful. Jane Fonda is gorgeous, but she has nothing to do but be pouty or cruel. And her near incestuous relationship with Peter Fonda is lugubrious.

But there's a nice macaw.
