DR JANE thank you.  It was great fun.

Carol is always fun to talk to - and we love talking about when we were kids.

We were in the second group of three grandkids.....we always seemed to come in threes.....and Carol, Jenny, and Jack, were a trio to be reckoned with for sure.

Such happy memories :)

Answering my own question:  Yum Yum was founded in 1971 and expanded fairly rapidly, so I would certainly remember having seen them around. Whether I ever had their donuts is another question. I see they bought up the Winchell's chain, and according to Wikipedia there are some 126 Yum Yums and Winchells around the greater L.A. area now.

Most trips home included a stop at Winchell's after leaving the airport & before my final destination.   Always it was for a crumb donut, and a few other options.  Over the years the donuts became inconsistent and eventually not worth stopping for :(

Winchell's was the go-to all around town then, or so it seemed. Then once I discovered Stan's in Westwood, nothing else would do. Except that when I had moved to Redondo Beach and wasn't around Westwood so often, I "discovered" Dunkin' Donuts which had a really nice eat-in place in a prime location in Torrance. It was on my way to work, so I'd stop in occasionally and enjoy the donuts and coffee at the counter or in a booth. I thought their donuts were fine then, even though they're ubiquitous and "okay" nowadays. But the great thing was the coffee -- served in a regular ceramic mug the way coffee was meant to be served, and it was delicious. No one (especially young people, but even people who are old enough to know better) believes me now, but that's how they got their reputation for the coffee. Yes, kids, we used to drink from a vessel in which you could actually taste it, as opposed to tasting the plastic lid and styrofoam of today's cups -- which even runneth over if you are not careful.

I didn't know about the coffee at Dunkin Donuts, and since I don't drink coffee I wouldn't bother going there for their donuts.
You know I love Stan's, however, his crumb donuts weren't as good as Winchell's.

A Trump-Kennedy run in 2024?  Trump supporters really are the creme de la ignorant. Trump isn't really a Republican; he should honestly be considered the American Nazi Party. What I really really hope is that by 2023 he's either dead by natural or unnatural causes or he's in some federal prison for good.

From your lips....

Donuts are not my friend right now - my system just doesn't do well with them - don't know why.

The bad news: I just learned that my grade school best friend, John Hawkins, has died. He and his brother Tom lived down the street from us on Park Drive. We were friends until we lost touch when his family moved, and DR Ginny's husband Richard became my best friend from Junior High through high school. About twenty-five years ago, John called me out of the blue and we reconnected. About five years ago, I told him he should come and visit me in NYC. He didn't take me up on my offer, aqnd just this morning, before I got the email about his death, I was thinking about him, and thinking, if he came to New York now to visit, I'd be a poor guide on that damned walker.

For lunch I had a Cadbury fruit & nut bar, and for dinner I had frozen brussel sprouts and a fried egg sandwich. Are my stars in collision?

I'm not decorating, but I have a huge soft spot for holiday music, and when I can, I've been listening to WQXR's holiday music stream:
