This weekend we watched "National Treasure" which we all quite enjoyed.  We rented it at the request of the Vixter and found it to be fun and profanity-free.  I don't know that it was "great movie making" but we all thoroughly enjoyed it and regretted that we didn't  see it on the "big screen"

(maybe we could drop by MattH's and use his set !) ;D

I have been humming these Noel Coward tunes all last night, and now this morning.  They are quite intoxicating.

DRGeorge, there is a glorious song "Someday" in Friml's THE VAGABOND KING.  Also, "it says so in the script" is a ME AND JULIET reference ("It's Me" verse).

I don't know THE VAGABOND KING, but when you mentioned the ME AND JULIET reference, I realized that I had another brain fart.  Lena Lamont doesn't say the word "script," she says "contract."  Ooops...yet again. ::)

I should point out that if people I DON'T know behave rudely, I don't pay it much attention, simply because they are not worth my time.

We also watched Galaxy Quest over the weekend, again not great movie making but a really fun movie (especially for  Mr. Vixmom & me since a dear friend of ours used to run the Star Trek conventions in NYC and told us many amusing "backstage " stories, which we suspect the makers of the movie were also privy to).

The Vixter just liked it on its own merits.

I am having the dangest time trying to post about TOD.  Mostly because I'm extremely angry with two different people right now and it's difficult to follow the way I know these situations should be handled, let alone trying to write about it.

Is it okay if I just act out right now?

Grrrrrrrrrr!  GRRRRRRR!  GRRRRRRRRR!!!

I got a knife here, and I'm not afraid to use it!!!

GRRRRRRRR!!!  GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!  GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!

Whew!  Now I feel better!

Thanks for listening!

DR VIXMOM - you made the right choice.  Never look back.

Or, as they say in Galaxy Quest "Never Give up, never surrender!!!"

(Of course it makes no sense in this context, but it's our new family phrase from the movie!!)

The news in today's local paper:

17 year old boy beats Dad to death because dad complained that  son's friend was disrespectful to dad

12 year old girl strangles her mother to death with her bare hands, because Mom asked her to clean her room.

9 year old stabs her 11 year old friend to death in a dispute over a rubber spalding ball

That all happened yesterday on Long Island!!

And in the ADULT news, a guy in WFO's town, the next town from me,  beat up his wife and then chained her in the basement with his leopards!!!

And a 72 year old man did nasty things to a 6 year old girl

My mom often says that these things happened years back, too.  It's just that people didn't talk about it and it certainly wasn't reported in the papers.

We (well really Mr. Vixmom did all the work) opened the pool   which makes me wonder what ever happened to sensible bathing suits

Thanks, DR Vixmom--I want you around when I break out the bataka bat!

(Not that I mean I want to use it on you!  I want you cheering for support!   :))

While looking for images of a 'bataka bat" I found this article

Quote
Hitting pillows, using bataka bats, and venting: This technical baloney will make you angry!
For years, catharsis--in particular venting angry feelings through "safe" forms of physical expression--has been a popular and preferred strategy of many therapists. Data has long existed calling such practices as "hitting a pillow," "punching a punching bag," or "hitting something or someone with a bataka bat" into serious question. Now additional research shows that there is no scientific support whatsoever for the catharsis effect. Indeed, acting out anger actually increase a person's hostility! Here's hoping you didn't just buy stock in that bataka bat company!

Bushman, B.J., et al. (1999). Catharsis, aggression and persuasive influence: Self-fulfilling or self-defeating prophecies? Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 76(3).

Sensible bathing suits.  It is to laugh.

I like the beach, though.  But I want a beach with plenty of shade and not too much sand, and not too close to the water.

Recently in Cape May, NJ, they lifted a ban on men wearing tight fitting speedoes on the beach.  Methinks that the town council in Cape May has not taken a good enough look at the physiques of the men who tend to seashore there.

Mr. V. & I also watched the Dennis Quaid remake of "Flight of the Phoenix"... don't waste your time.  rent the James Stewart original instead.
The two films were being sold as a two-pack when the remake came out on DVD.  Probably not the most inteligent move, to beg an audience to compare the films.
