I had a strange night of sleep in a bed filled with three strange cats. I was awake for much of the time, but I kep dozing. I remember bits of a dream in which Rob Berman, Sara Jean Ford, and I were in a coffee shop.

Much of my night was anxiety about today's procedure (https://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info/fiducial-marker) and pondering my schedule for the time between kitty cleanup and my departure for the procedure.

I like too many orchestrations to have a few favorites, but I do like the work of these gentlemen:
Frank Saddler, Jerome Kern's choice until his death around 1922;
Otto Langey and Harold Sanford, Victor Herbert's men; Sanford replaced Langey when he left M. Witmark & Sons for G. Schirmer in 1912;
Robert Russell Bennett. nothing else to say;
Ted Royal, underrated;
Hans Spialek, known primarily for Rodgers & Hart, but he surprisingly shows up as a ghost writer on other shows;
Don Walker, really versatile, but his work on Carousel, She Loves Me, and Most Happy Fella re stunning;
Hershy Kay, truly brilliant, and his NYC Ballet scores are amazing;
Phil Lang, gave Jerry Herman lots of glitter and beautiful work on My Fair Lady and Camelot;
Sid Ramin, Robert Ginzler, Irwin Kostal, Ralph Burns, the best of the "new" guys of the 1950s and 60s;
Jonathan Tunick, always amazing;
Alex Lacamoire, he amazes me.

Last night -- and this morning -- I could not have felt much more exhausted from the day's rehearsals and tech work. Even my sleep was rocky, but I have now eaten a nicely prepared breakfast and am relaxing over a second cup of coffee. I even washed yesterday's dishes and am preparing to do a load of laundry. I've got plenty to do before this evenings dress rehearsal, but it will now all happen in good time.

My list of favorite orchestrations couldn't hold a candle to DR Elmore's, so I shan't even attempt it. And like he said, there are simply too many to name.

He does omit one orchestrator highly deserving of mention, guy by the name of Larry Moore.

Interesting choice there, Alex Lacamoire. I didn't know the name until I began getting familiar with Lin-Manuel Miranda's shows, and then I discovered in retrospect that he had been responsible for the 5-piece (or is it 6?) Bat Boy, which is one of the earlier, quite complex - and hugely fun - programmed-keyboard orchestrations. He's also a complete nut on how his scores are edited and presented on the page, a quality that warms my pea-pickin' little heart in this era of bland, generic looking error-ridden Finale pages.

Oh, God, the humiliation of attempting a Fleet enema while Annabelle and Stella offer advice on what you're doing wrong!

As far as I'm concerned, these procedures and biopsies should require a full colonoscopy prep. It's a pain but so much easier.

Not at all! Think nothing of it.

I will respectfully disagree, however, on Fleet vs. Full Prep. I find those twelve hours (or whatever it actually comes to) of prep an abomination that shouldn't have to exist in an advanced civilization. There should be a five-minute "thing" they could hook you up to when you show up for one of those procedures that gets the damned job done on the spot. Failing that, the five minutes of Fleet would be my choice. I don't know about the help from the cats, though. I can see that complicating things.

I went to Western Washington University with her!  At the time, she was Heidi Lynn Grant.  We actually had a couple of classes together.  She had an incredible voice back then, too. :)

Kurt Weill was a rather accomplished orchestrator.
