As you all know, I loved Gwen Cooper's Love Saves the Day. The most horrifying part of the novel is based on the actual events that happened to the tenement at 172 Stanton Street on the Lower East Side. This was a sneaky deal between the city and landlord to turn a rent-controlled building into a million-dollar piece of real estate. Lady Gaga lived in the expensive apartments now standing there:

Saturday afternoon greetings!  We’re settled in for a big college football doubleheader.  Right now, the Cincinnati Bearcats are playing for the AAC championship and, if they win, they’ll advance to the national championship semifinals.  This evening, Michigan plays for the Big Ten championship which would put them in the semis, too.  Could the Bearcats and the Wolverines end up playing each other?  If they do, I’ll be happy how ever the game turns out.
