NOTES TO THE ACCOMPANIMENT OF NOTES
« on: December 14, 2021, 12:25:27 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes could be hummed to the tune of the final movement of Shostakovich's eleventh symphony, and now it is time for you to post until the humming cows come home.

I slept really well last night, and I am quite happy about that.

Today would have been my father's 100th birthday. I love him and miss him enormously, but I still want to dig up his body and kick his ass for the mess he caused with that Ohio property.

I'm doing very little today. Early tomorrow morning I have my last pre-radiation procedure, so I can eat nothing after 3:00 today except for clear liquids.

DR Jrand 71, I would swear I purchased a copy of A SHORT HISTORY OF A SMALL PLACE several yeats ago when you first mentioned it, and I have no idea where it is.

Today is the appraising of the items inside my uncle's house.  I do not know how long it will take or even what happens during such an enterprise.  But when I come back, all shall be revealed.

And today is the day that the renters are supposed to be out of THAT house.....they have been moving out for awhile and are meeting my brother to give him the keys.

They have also let us know that they have a security deposit from years ago that is exactly the amount of rent they owe.  I have a signed lease that says the deposit is about $400 less than that....

What fresh hell is this?

Post-pandemic, pre-resurrected pandemic, the prices HAVE gone up.

I find it hard to believe that my last time here was days ago.  What was I doing and where was I at and why don't I remember?

Ah, well.

Today, I have an appointment for lab work at the VA.

It's a drive of about 30 minutes, but it's in Aiken SC, and I like Aiken SC.  There are shops there with food I don't  find here in Johnston SC.  There is a "Fresh Market", which I love.  It is a chain similar to Trader Joe's, and it has wonderful foods, a deli, a butcher, a bakery and wines and beers and various, sundry (and possibly sundried) thingies, and a great cheese selection.

And then there is Sam's Club.  Sam's is relatively new to me in that I only joined back in September.  Have been back three times, and love, love, love shopping there.

After all, I live in Johnston SC.  We are choice-deprived, so to speak.

Similar thing happened to me this morning that happened to DR Ginny:

I sat down at the laptop, which I had closed last night like I nearly always do, and when I opened it I found myself right here in HHW Land, and still logged in. I figured that as soon as I refreshed the screen, it would all change and I'd be gone. But nooooooo. I was, and am, still here.

And yet -- AND YET -- a little while ago I had opened the iPad and caught up on last night's posts, read the new notes, read the first few posts of this morning, and I can swear that NO ONE was showing as logged on at the time.

[Cue:  theremin music]

Now THERE'S an idea:

An album of Christmas music played on the theremin.

So apparently there's been a supply-chain cream cheese shortage, at least in some areas. I wasn't up on the news and hadn't heard about it till a couple of days ago. Naturally, hearing that immediately made me want some cream cheese, so when I was out shopping yesterday I checked two supermarkets and only one had a couple dozen boxes left. Most of what's out there right now is the pricier spreadable variety. I very judiciously picked up two (2) out of their few dozen boxes, and we already have some spreadable, so we're all set. That's actually more than we normally keep around.

But here's the crazy thing I just learned:  Someone was buying a bunch and freezing it. That sounds good until you google the viability of freezing cream cheese, and you find that it's "okay" to do so for only 2-3 months, and then the texture is going to be completely different when thawed. The curds will separate from the water and at that point it's still safe to use but it's really only good for baking. So the hell with that. But here's the real kicker. The two boxes I bought yesterday have use-by dates of June 2022. That's seven months in the fridge, so why would anyone freeze it?

There's no need to answer that. :)
