... and then there are  the poor overweight, untalented ones that are crammed into a  leotard three sizes too small and are constantly 1/2 a step behind the rest of the class...its painful to watch, but I give them a lot of credit for sticking to it and performing with a smile!

It is ever thus, DR VIXMOM.  I too give them credit and applause.

Every evening I have been running around doing errands and sorting laundry and reading The October Horse in my free moments, so no DVD or VCR selections either

The media report is a bit complex this time, since it's tied in with another Grandlad-sitting.  Since we didn't have the Tarzan CD in the car (enough being enough), and since we'd loaned the lads our copy of Frog and Toad, there was no familiar CD in the car when we picked up William from school.  Crisis time: what would he listen to.

He decided he "hates" Charlie Brown, so You're a Good Man... lasted only a track or two.  Seussical had the Cat in the Hat on the cover, but is not about the Cat in the Hat, so that lasted only a couple of tracks before William declared it "boring" as well.  Lion King on Broadway?  The choral stuff that isn't from the film bombed.  I finally handed him all the discs we had in the car.  "What's this?" he asked.  It was The Frogs.  "That's not really for kids," I told him.  He decided he had to hear it.  Out of stubbornness, he stuck with it for four or five tracks.

Mind, in all of our dashing around (made more complicated by trying to find a WeBeLos bandanna for der B's daughter, the Cub Den Mom), William got no rest time, which five-year-olds do need.  He had a splendid lunch at a buffet restaurant, however.

But by the time we picked up his older brother, Alex, he was getting antsy and rebelious.  Unfortunately, so was older brother Alex.  So, while Alex decided he did like You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown,, when we got to a regional park that der B needed to check out for summertime camp activities (for which he'll have transportation duties) the lads quickly found their way to the shore of the lake.  Off came their shoes, so they could wade in the water.  Off came their shirts, because it was so hot.  You guessed it, within a minute they were swimming, defying my telling them not to even think of it.  It took both stern Grandpa and a very angry yours truly to get them ashore again.

We, of course, had no towels in the car.

We also played no music on the way back home.  If the grandlads are going to disobey, I see no reason to give them privileges.  And (the good news) they do realize that the music is a privilege.

Sorry, but in this era of "Just Say No to Drugs," is it a good idea for someone to run around as a high tenor?  It just doesn't match the tenor of the times.

My Vixter is very slim and very energetic, but I am afraid not very talented inthe dance depaertment... oh she does all the steps and in the right order and at the same pace as the rest of the class.. but that  special "something" that makes you say  "look at her' just isn't there.....

but she enjoys it so let her do it....

on the other hand when she sings... oh then she shines....

I have a feeling it's Beth, Jake, and Abby.

Just as well--it really wasn't that entertaining and isn't worth the effort to recreat it.

But now what am I gonna do with the Patricia Routledge pic I have in my Photobucket.com folder?

MEDIA CHECK, part two:

When we finally got back to the lad's home, their father was already there.  Der B had them explain what had happened at the park.

A little later, der B went upstairs, with a DVD in hand.  No, they didn't get to pick out what they wanted (in spite of William declaring he "hated" what Grampa had before he'd even seen it).  So they all watched Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat together.  Alex loved it, and later was singing the phrase "Go, go, Joseph" all around the house.  William found a way to sit in front of everyone else, he was so engrossed with the show.

Small problem, though.  Der B practically promised the lads that we had a copy of the CD, which we'll have in the car for our next excursion.  Only, we don't have the CD yet.

Time to go shopping.

Yumm - I participated today for the first time in Derrick's Lunch Delivery.  A young man who works in another library department takes orders on Thursday, picks up home-cooked lunches from his friend Mary, and delivers them at noon on Friday.  Today's menu was fried perch, macaroni salad, collard greens, bread (which I didn't eat), and peach cobbler - all for $7!  Sure beats going out in the heat, which I can't do on Fridays anyway, because I only have a half-hour lunch.

And now, an announcement. As Mr. Oz mentioned late in the notes yesterday, today, June 10th is Miss Garland's birthday, but it is also Mr. Anthony Morelli's birthday. So all together, Happy Birthday Anthony!

Happy Birthday to DR Ben's Anthony!!

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from the Ms. French's Class 11:45a.m. presentation of GO FISH.  *There were no composer nor lyricist credits listed in the program, so...  Hmmm....

It was a fun show!  Short and sweet.  Four scenes.  Four songs.  And each child had their moment to shine in one way or another.  And for a bunch of kindergarteners, they did a pretty good job - songs and lines memorized too!  -With their music teacher off to the side mouthing the words and prompting when necessary - oh, and doing the choreography too!

From what I could gather - and understand - the diction of kindergarteners is still the diction of five year-olds - the story was about how the Sharks wanted to get along with the other fish and creatures in the ocean.  My nephew, John Michael, was Tiger Shark #2.

The opening scene and song was called, "Oceans of Fun!".  It did it's job nicely introducing us to all the various types of fish, and to their underwater world.

The second scene featured the Sharks, and the song, "We're Sharks".  It was a rap song.  And my nephew had the opening couple of lines as his solo.

Then came the Misfit Fish and Tiger Sharks scene which featured their song, "Commotion in the Ocean".  It was sort of a vaudeville number with joke breaks in it:

-What's broken and shaking and at the bottom of the sea?
-A nervous wreck!

-Where do fishes keep their money?
-In the river bank!

Yuck-yuck-yuck!

It was also during this scene that the Misfit Fish, like the Sharks, also wanted to fit in with the rest of the fish in the ocean

The Zebra Fish wanted stripes instead of the polka-dots she had.
The Octopus had only seven legs, and he wanted eight.
The Star Fish wanted a Leading Role.  *It took me a while to figure out exactly what the Star Fish wanted/was saying, then I noticed the she had a top hat and cane on one of her "legs'.
The Blow Fish just wanted some air.
And the Tuna Fish - who kept singing, "mi-mi-mi-miiiii" just wanted some talent and the ability to "stay on pitch and a good sense of rhythm".  -Get it, Tune-A Fish? Huh?

;)

So, that led us to the Final Scene where they all went to meet the Great White Shark to see if he could grant their wishes and give them what they want.  In his great wisdom, the Great White Shark pointed out that if everyone was the same, then there would be no variety in the ocean, and the ocean would be boring.  They all agreed and happily swam back home to the reprise of "Oceans of Fun!".

...And they all lived happily ever after.

It turns out John Michael's teacher had spent some time down at Disneyworld after she graduated college, so we traded some names and stories.  She explained in her intro that she was training each of her students to be a Triple Threat just like she had to do down at Disneyworld.  Well, it does look like some of the will be Triple Threats..

-Can't Act.  Can't Sing.  Can't Dance.

Yuck-yuck-yuck!

It really was a nice show.  I was just surprised that I could fit into those grade-school sized chairs.  The art classes also came up with a nice backdrop for them, and their costumes - basically masks - were very well done too.  Heck, I thought I was watching a second grade production instead of a kindergarten one!
