I never heard of beef manhattan, but we used to have creamed chipped beef aka sh*t on a shingle quite often, but I cannot remember if that was in junior high or high school.

Oh yes, we had that, too. And certainly at home. I loved it then and would probably love it now. I have no idea when I last had it.

And -- same here. With most of these, I don't remember whether they were grade school, junior high, high school, or all of the above.

In 1979/80 I lived two blocks south of Factor’s, and I enjoyed some good lox-and-bagel breakfasts there.

I remember driving down to where Beverly Drive circles around that little park and sitting there for a while reading. So BK’s house would have been just four houses to the east. For me, Beverlywood meant that area and the neighborhood to the south.

My first childhood home was in Beverlywood on S Crest Dr, a ten minute walk to Circle Park.

If I pay for my phone and the phone service, it seems I should have some say in who calls me.  Telemarketers are absolutely without shame.

I understand it's a job, just as it used to be a job for people who went door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions.  Yes, I sometimes subscribed just because the salesperson looked so hopeful.

But now, they call and you answer...and get no reply...and if you say hello again (and again) someone might start talking to you or you get a recording.  I have zero patience with that.  I say THEY should pay for that call, not me.

I agree. It is very annoying to have to pay for a call that technically isn't even legal since I am on the no call list.

I was most amused at the reaction to my Manhattan imbibation.....I am trying to find out what it is that was called that on our lunch menus, but I cannot find it......

HOWEVER I did recall the Olive Wars.

One day when I was a sophomore, we all got about five olives in one of our plate compartments.  This was something new.....we had never had such a thing.....and they were black olives!

Sometime during the lunch, someone threw an olive to a friend, and then another person did and then another and another and another...soon the air was full of black olives being hoisted from table to table.

The lunch ladies scattered and started clapping their hands demanding that the disrespect to the vegetables cease immediately, but they were of course outvoted.

Eventually the ADMINISTRATION was called.  We were all properly chastised and had to remain in the lunch room for the REST of the lunch break.....

And olives were never served for lunch again.

I liked chopped olive and mayo sandwiches for lunch.

I'm up, I'm up - seven hours of sleep. Waiting to hear from Grant. I have a feeling he'll try to do this so late in the afternoon that it will be impossible, as I have to be at the theater at six.

Had some problematic emails this morning that will make things difficult, show-wise - not cast issues.

This morning I was asked to play/MD a production of Peter and the Starcatcher in June.

I know nothing about it except that it's "a play with music" as opposed to a musical, and though there are only a few songs, it's awkwardly written for piano (i.e., for a pianist who has at least three hands) and percussion, but that it could actually be lots of fun once you come to terms with it. But that's not a good time for me, and I had to pass. Too bad, because both the director and choreographer are two of our area's best. They'll do really well with it. But I also want to get to know it at some point before jumping in.

I'm kind of surprised they'd allow you to leave via Uber or Lyft or taxi. The few times I've had in-patient or out-patient surgery, I have to have my driver with me and they haven't allowed any kind of outsourced transportation.

I miss references every now and again.  Who didn't have someone with him or her and took a commercial ride from a medical procedure?

It has been a very quiet, low-key day except for some phone calls I made regarding various medical appointments.  All is well.

Even though it's an hour later than it ought to be, theoretically, the day sure passes by quickly.

That said, the U.S. Senate passed a bill today that would make daylight savings time permanent.  If it is approved by all of Congress, it would become effective in November 2023.
