I wonder how many of you have different ways of coping with loss.

There are times when I suddenly miss my mom and dad.  And I only recently lost my maternal aunt and uncle.

I have, over the years, lost my best friend, my college roommate and colleagues with whom I worked and learned.

There are always twinges of sadness, and sometimes there are a few tears.

But the most overwhelming feeling is of sadness that I no longer have them to turn to and cherish.

This day started so very brightly, but clouds have covered the sky this afternoon and more rain storms are in our future, likely tonight.

My cousin Butch and his fiancee, Sharon, have invited me to join them at the club this evening for their oyster roast.  I am going ONLY because a limited menu of other, more edible, items are available. I am not a fan of oysters, as a rule, although a nice fried oyster on a plate of other fried seafoods is welcome.

I shall not discuss the frustration of yesterday that puts us behind in our executorial duties.

But...but...how will we know who to curse and spit upon if we don't know the particulars?

On days in elementary school that I had chopped olive/mayo sandwiches and my friend had olive/cream cheese we would trade half our sandwiches for variety.

In grade school I remember having to write a report on my family's heritage. It included drawing a country map. I looked at my choices - England and Ireland - and chose Ireland, on the basis that it looked easier to draw.

I wonder, though, what mechanisms some of you might use when sadness comes along.

It didn't bring me down.  As for coping, I embrace my memories, go for a walk if possible, and wait for the pain to pass.

One of the things I did was check if my neighbor was planning a future trip to the mall & See's candy.  Perfect timing as she was going today, and is on her way home with my order

I would order from Amazon, but the prices are a bit outrageous.

I was going to stop by the gas station, but it's raining dogs (not a cat in sight), and there is no longer a protective awning over the tanks at my local Shell. 

Oh, well.

Jane and Ron (and anyone else interested), do either of you go to Costco?  If you don't know about this, my local Costco (and yours too, I'm sure) sells See's gift cards for $40, but they're $50 in value...a 20% discount.  Even if you buy See's once, it's a great deal because the cards never expire.
