The reviews for the new Downton Abbey film make the picture sound like it was made for fans. So what? I’m down with that.

Halfway into Nightmare Alley. It’s been good so far, but … and it’s a big but … the pacing is lackluster. And then some of the performances are lackluster, too. Rooney Mara is underwhelming, Cate Blanchett is almost as grotesque as the carny freaks, but maybe that’s the point.

Tonight I watched TILL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY. There was a daughter of the Van Heflin character, her name would have been Sally Kessler. In the final scene of the film, MGM is featuring her in their Kern musical. Was there a real singer named Sally Kessler?

After the film was over, I saw that I also have a Remastered Version of the film. I guess it is remastered, the description says it is a fictionalized retelling of the life of composer Joseph Kern.

The movie lists Gower ((minus Marge) Champion as being in the film. Does anyone know if that is Gower dancing to “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”?

Even though there are only eight actors in the show, when you get the non-professional rights to perform the show, you are required to purchase 16, count 'em, SIXTEEN copies of the script, TWO copies of the stage manager's edition, and TWO copies of the director's book!

After rehearsal, I sent a message through our Slack app about the scripts arriving, and pug who will be directing the show asked if I could bring them to her tomorrow at her work, and I asked how about now since I'm out and about.

She said fine, so I went and visited pug and her husband and their son for a while and we all caught up and had a nice chat, then I came home.
