The laundry is in the washers, the bed made, kitty cleanup accomplished. When the laundry goes into the dryers, I will call Social Security.

Confession o' the Day:

I have never seen Once Upon a Time in America.

This, of course, is something that must, and eventually shall, be rectified.

DR Elmore, I hope your liability on that gaffe is limited to $50, and further, that it is returned to you.

New Rule:  No entering of information while one is on the phone.

Unless the person on the phone is guiding you step by step on something, which is a different matter.  Oy!  :)

So, new gig coming up:

Keyboard 2 in Seth Rudetsky's Disaster! at Curtain Call in Stamford CT, in June.

I played that book three years ago, and it's nothing tough. Have to work on programming it, though, because this place isn't renting it.

DR JohnG:  I admit I loved the TV show "Moonlighting", but it wasn't as ridiculous as "The Lady Vanishes".  As for Shepherd as Hitler...howlingly dreary.

TOD:

My favorite DeNiro was his performance as Vito Corleone in "The Godfather II"
I have enjoyed him in other films, including "Taxi Driver" and "True Confessions".

Movies with James Woods I have enjoyed include "The Onion Fields", but completely with no regard for Woods' presence in the film.

I love much of Berg's music, including the violin concerto, but the two (or however many he wrote) Schoenberg concertos are barely listenable to these ears. Granted, it's been years since I tried, but I do not feel compelled to spend more effort on them. I shall admire their composition from afar, and that shall be that. I do love some other Schoenberg pieces very much, no question, but -- this is how far back it goes -- I still have scar tissue from sitting through the piano concerto in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion back in the 1970s. I don't even remember if it was Levine guest-conducting, or Mehta, or who the pianist was. Oy!

But there will be a quiz.

I saw it opening day in the butchered, linear version that BK mentioned. It was engrossing, if not perfect. I don’t know which longer version I have seen, but I loved it all the more. I still have a double DVD set to watch.

I love/hate DeNiro in New York, New York. Johnny is a reprehensible character. The rest of these I just love:

The Godfather II
King of Comedy
Cape Fear
Taxi Driver
The Intern
Stardust
Jackie Brown
Brazil
1900
Bang the Drum Slowly
Raging Bull
Once Upon a Time in America

From DR Ron:

Okay, Jeanne:  It was the generic use.  I do have a refrigerator.

And for you and Jane:  Most of the older stuff was in jars and pushed back.  I threw a lot of it out because it wasn't anything I would have ever eaten to begin with, but I think it was mostly still edible.

 :D

I must admit I have one of those types of jars in my frig I need to get rid of.  I am just too lazy to rinse it out so I can recycle the glass.

But there will be a quiz.

Anticipating the quiz, I thought some more about this. It was the violin concerto, not the piano concerto, the very concerto of which BK speaks. I still have no idea who played it, and I have none of those programs saved. But it was indeed Levine conducting, because I also remembered a subsequent conversation in which I admitted that just sitting through it at the concert had been tough going. It was one of the few times when he didn't try to encourage one to listen some more, give it another chance, or pick up a score and get to know it a little. He just smiled and said "yep, that's about as dense as these things get."

Jeanne, you are a little further along in The Book Woman's Daughter than I am. I'm only up to chapter 11.

I'm enjoying the story as well as the mention of other things of the time period, such as Singin' in the Rain being at the movies. It's also fun hearing Barbara Pym's Excellent Women being mentioned right after having finished a biography of her.

Yes, the extras are delightful, including the phone bits.  Good timing on Barbara Pym for you.  I had forgotten I read Excellent Women-oops.

Busy morning here:  My yard men came to trim the hedges, etc., and my mowing man came after and mowed the yard.

House looks really nice right now.

In 1970, I was a grad assistant in the Miami University Theatre Dept. Of the four grad assistants at the time, two are now dead. The third, my friend Joe, has been someone I've been trying to locate for the past 22 years sicne I got a computer. On Sunday night, I was talking to his ex-wife who lives in Boise, Idaho now. She mentioned that Joe might still be living in Austin. Werll, he is, and I found him on Facebook. We've been passing emails back and forth today. In 1970, we were going rto write a Gilbert & Sullivan opera together, something about a Mexican revolution and a taco vendor. It was sure to be a hit.
