We've had some really nice days, and in fact it's only 77 degrees now. But this is the first day that it's truly felt like summer. And it's TOO DAMN HUMID.

I suddenly remembered one of my dreams last night. I was acting as a guide-company manager for The English Opera Group, minus Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears. We were all dsittign at a large roud table in a restaurant talking about Gilbert and sullivan and ordering dinner.

That’s twice this week you have equated Gilbert and Sullivan with food.

Well, I like Gilbert and Sullivan, and I like food, so . . .

Sounds like a healthy, balanced diet to me.

Sounds like a very model of a modern maitre'd!

Since I had an order for blood work from one doctor, I called my primary to find what else he wanted to order prior to my yearly exam next month.

The first doctor always mails me the order to take to whatever lab I want to go to.  My primary had his order faxed directly to the lab.  I asked for a copy in the mail since, for some crazy reason, I have a history of orders not making it to labs with the correct info.  He warned me their mailing system was slow but I never imagined it was that slow.  I didn't receive it until after I returned home from my appointment today.

Guess what was never faxed over, or not received, even though the copy in the mail shows the correct fax number.  As a result it took at least half an hour just to get that issue corrected.

Between the two doctors there were a lot of tubes to be filled.  The first tube filled fine and then the pace slowed down considerably.

Knowing she should, I asked the phlebotomist if removing the tourniquet would help.  She said "no".  Instead she kept pressing on my arm, above the needle, to force more blood out.  Finally she removed the tourniquet which helped some.  Sometimes this can cause test results to be compromised.

Thinking about food. Could go out and get something, I suppose. I'm a bit bored or ordering in, frankly.

I shall now be on my way to my first CLUE rehearsal.

Birdy Barnum will be by himself for the first time.  I always leave a light and the television on for him.....I'm sure he remembers from last year.....

Back from Shop Rite and Petco, measurably poorer.

Speaking of which, we haven't posted our gasoline price observations in quite a while. Well, it's pretty sickening here, and I know we're far from the worst. Following our first Putin-inspired increases which took the discount places (Costco & BJ's) up to about the four-dollar mark, the state implemented a three-month gas tax relief program which lowered prices across the board by approx. 25-cents per gallon. So, those $4 places instantly went down to $3.75. And then for a couple of weeks the prices fell further until we were at $3.61.

Fast-forward to a couple of weeks later when suddenly they began shooting up again, right up to the former $4.00 level and beyond. Today BJ's is at $4.19. Gee, um, thanks for the tax break Mr. Governor, sir.

Like I said, I know we ain't the worst. I'm scared to ask what it is in Southern California now.

Just under $7 for premium in my 'hood and they're been at that level for a while.

I find these sorts of problems very common. Are the admin people overworked or just not completely with it? A friend in the Bay Area experiences all the same admin screw-ups that I experience here. Which medical group doesn't seem to matter. I expect the staff are not well paid and good ones don't stick around.

Jane, maybe it'd be best to not try to draw so much blood in one day. Blood draws are just tolerable at best and you could end up dehydrated.

Does Birdy Barnum enjoy TV? Does he have a favorite show? Does he let you know?

I listened to a webinar today and was thinking about taking the day as a Me Day, but when I saw how the laundry had piled up I decided to get that done. I'm also looking for things that can be tossed. Too much stuff!

I first encountered the problem about 24 years ago.  Now I always try to have my own copy of the tests ordered.

I thought of that, except the only other time I had this problem was when the tourniquet was not released around my arm after the blood began to flow.   I know it is important to drink water before getting blood drawn.  Today I made sure to drink water after returning to the car.

Next time I will insist it be released sooner, if it isn't done, and then I will know if the problem is the tourniquet or not.
