Back from a wonderfully wonderful lunch with Richard Sherman and daughter Vicky. Vickey's now reading the Kritzer trilogy and she loves them. Richard seems very happy and in good shape after his recent operation. His short term memory is a bit worse, but the minute you remind him of something he remembers instantly. I gave both of them a copy of Tis the Season to be Murdered.

We went to some Eyetalian jernt off Beverly Glen just south of Mulholland in a little strip mall of high end nernst. Richard had spaghetti bolognese, Vicky had fettuccine alfredo, and I had a small Caesar and then penne with sausage in a light pink sauce. Food was really good but not as good as the conversation. We laughed, we reminisced, and had a grand time for almost two hours. Then, after, I came right home.

Today I visited the nearby salad/soup/sandwich/juice bar for the first time since Covid closed them down. I pass by there a couple times a week and would crane my neck to see if they'd reopened. No sign. They send out emails, but they only mentioned ordering ahead of time and specifying a pick-up time. For office workers with rigid schedules that's fine, but I want more flexibility. It seems they reopened last year, but never mentioned it!

Prices are up, of course. I ordered my beloved carrot juice with lemon. Soooo good! The salads and sandwiches are sold by the pound and on Fridays they give a prize to anyone who can guess the cost of their salad/sandwich. I guessed $6.60, thinking lettuce doesn't weigh much, but I'd forgotten that I also bought a sandwich and potato salad. It was actually $14.89! I've never won the prize--don't even know what it is--but I've come close a few times.

I made sloppy sloppy joes today.

I call them that because every time I make them I have to clean the counter, the sink, the range, and sweep & mop the floor when I'm done.
