So, El Pollo Loco:
I ignored it for years, until just about my last year in LA, then something inspired me to give it a try. It worked for me, and I had it a few times, but I was ordering inside the store and taking it directly home. It was always fresh, and everything that was supposed to be there was always there. I'm trying to remember what sides I had, and I'm totally blank on that (though corn sounds very likely), but the one thing I know is that the salsa was of critical importance for my taste. I would have been less interested in the chicken without it.
Am I remembering correctly that the chicken was served without the skin? And that their method of preparing or serving it supposedly made it healthier than at most chicken establishments? I forget how they cooked it, and I'm not cheating by looking online. But the salsa and whatever else they had to accompany it was good at the time. That was 33 years ago (!!!), so who knows how accurate my memory is or whether it's changed.
My location was Sunset & La Brea - or something and La Brea, but I'm thinking Sunset. I should just go look now.
