I'm also in the not-quite-with-it pronoun camp. Language must and does evolve, but I usually dislike the changes. I do not like "they" instead of "him" or "her," but I admit to its usefulness.

I think I have found my book book to write. It’s set in Scotland (as was The Second Chances Bookshop and Diary of a Bookseller). It must involve someone inheriting property where they don’t live (see most). Their personal life is at a crossroads. They have to bring life back to something while it brings life back to them. The twist this time will be it’s a children’s bookstore. And it’ll be titled The Wee Bairn Book Barn.

I'm intrigued with the idea of inheriting property where you don't live. Despite being used before, I feel it has plenty of life left. I'd happily read another book with that theme.

Today has been one of those unsatisfying days full of phone calls and emails and other inquiries that don't usually pan out. But if you don't seek how will you find?

And it's hot. I used GrubHub because I just didn't want to go out. Bleh.

When I see "they" I can't get past the idea "they" refers to the multiple personalities inside a person.

Considering how many books out there have this theme chances are you will find another one to read ;)

Lebanon, Ohio. I was there - at the Golden Lamb, a historic hotel. Best fried chicken ever.

I understand why people want their pronouns. But my old-fashioned brain is having a hard time adjusting. Not for any political reason.

Same here, though I don't understand why they expect people to find this easy.

It's not really that difficult.  You really only have to worry about it if you know that their preferred pronouns are not the usual he or she, and you're talking to them.  Otherwise, it's just business as usual. :)

And also remember they have a pronoun.  Maybe I will copy Freyja and just call everyone "person" ;)

Mandarin has no gendered pronouns. My friend Joy always mixes up he and she. It took me 20 years to figure out why.

My mom is German and their articles are gendered, so all cats are "she" and all dogs are "he" to her.

Back from the lunch meeting - mediocre food, but nice meeting. Turns out this PR person went to high school with me in my graduating class, although I didn't know her. Small world, isn't it?

Pretty cool!

My friend Margo had a Honda Odyssey for years and I never thought of that.

How about a new word that is a combination of him & her, such as "herm"

There already are many other options (this link is to just one of many lists).  But I would highly discourage something like "herm."  To me, it sounds like it's short for "hermaphrodite," which is really not preferred anymore.

I think of "guys", in a group gathering, as being generic, and having been so for many years now.

I did notice the last one was what Freyja says, "person" ;)
