I realized why the David Sedaris book wasn’t appealing. It’s too much about aging, death and dying. And it’s hitting too close to home to be all that funny.

Devil is as I remember it. It's a very good, atmospheric noir that becomes great the moment Don Cheadle appears. And whenever he's on the screen, the movie is enlivened by his electrifying presence. So, yes, it was worthy of the Criterion treatment, but it just misses being a classic.

I felt so sorry for our dancers.  We did the show in the middle of the summer, and I think they had nine or ten big dance numbers-and no A/C.
