It is less than a week since my birthday, but I have turned into an effen old man!. I am forgetting things, I can’t hold on to my iPad, I can barely hold on to a spoon or fork, and I am dropping things right and left.  I looked in the mirror today and I couldn’t believe what I saw.

DR Ron, don’t ever get old.  Oh I know you are a year or so years older, but you seem to be doing a lot better than me.  Maybe it is the fresh air in the Carolinas.

Yesterday had good moments and one terrifying one with a lot of hostile moments in between.

The morning went well, I got soem orchestration written, and then the deliveries began, Petsmart with two 29 lb cartons of kitty litter. The days of the 40 lb, cartons are over, alas. I had also received a huge Chewy.com carton of cat food, so I left the litter carton in the lobby and brought up the Chewy carton, which I unpacked while Stella began to drive me bats,

Chewy's items got put away, to the delight and curiosity of three cats, and it was time for the soaps.

After that, Amazon showed up, so I we=nt down to find no Amazon! As I was struggling with hte Petsmart cart, my neighbor in 1D, Dana, cazme out of her apartment, helped me remove the two boxes of litter from the heavy carton, carried the boxes of litter to the elevator and up to my door. Then, she took the empty carton to the basement!

When I got back to the third floor, Amazon had been there, and several boxes sat next to the litter in font of my door. From then ntil I had dinner around 4:00 - bad Chinese from one of my favorite places - Stella drove me completely mad. Around 6:00, when I finished unpacking an Amazon carton of vitamins, I stood up, lost my balance and took a nose dive onto the floor, taking my computer chair with me.

I remember thinking as I fell, don't let me hit my head. Instead, I landed solidly on my right hip next to the chair. I lay there for a couple of minutes, mentally assessing any pains and possible breakages before I sat up. Like Alice, when she shrinks under the glass table, I realized I had no to get myself up. I sat on the floor, trying to decide how to get help. My cell phone was charging and I couldn't get near it. If I yelled for help, I had just locked my apartment door for the night. I could turn a bit, but I had no leverage to life myself. I floundered abourt on the floor like a beached whale and finally rolled myself over so my knees were under me and finally lifted myself up. It was all more terrifying than I can express.

Oh my goodness, Elmore, how frightening.

I am not a fan of the idea of an Alexa but perhaps it would be wise to have something like that where you could shout for it to call for help.

I have given serious thought to following up on one of those "I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up" videos.

My neighbor Judy has my apartment keys and so does Joshie. I couldn't get to a phone to call either of them.

The management cannot get the ex-super's bitch wife, a nasty nasty lady, to move out although she's been ordered to evacuate. Her crazt son is the one we think behind the basement fire.

DR Elmore, what vixmom said. The last thing any of us needs is to take a fall that does some damage. But even a lesser incident can be damaging if there’s no way to get help.

I’ve been impressed at how falling is such a concern in the medical profession these days, once one reaches “a certain age”. It’s practically the first thing they ask about at doctors offices. “Do you have concerns about falling?”

SO glad you were all right, and that you were able to get yourself up. That is a close call, sir!

Ethan Mordden's latest book arrived in the Amazon delivery yesterday, so I spent too much time browsing through it. He was once a really good friend who did me wrong around 1990, so I've had neary thirty years to observe his madness and sometimes loony takes on things. For instance, in discussing John McGlinn's wonderful EMI recording of Brigadoon in this book, he gets half the background story correct, but because that's now in print, it will be quoted over and over and people believe it's all fact.

I did, of course look up my recordings, since he has either obliquely panned or praised me in his books, whenever I turn up, without ever mentioning my name:  in this one, he sorta likes my Eileen, ignores completely Dearest Enemy, and likes much of Roberta. I think The New Yorkers comes off best. He likes the arrangements, but can't mention Josh Clayton's wonderful work without also mentioning me.

However, w2ith those gripres, this book is great; it's very opinionated and a lot of fun, much more than his musicals-by-the-decades books with their often poor, if any, research'. I think his "Broadway Bebies" is far superior and less full of his bluster and ego.

However, the book itself as a piece of publishing is an embarrassment. Did no ne proofread this? It's certainly not published by his usual publishers St. Martin's Press or Oxford University Press, and it should have been. This one looks as if it were done in someone's basement on a printing press Christmas gift for children.

Does everyone know today is National Cinema Day or some such? - something I’d never heard of till a few days ago? On this day, every movie at theeders is $3 admission, regardless of title, auditorium, format (IMAX, etc.) or anything else. I couldn’t believe every theeder would go along with it, but all the ones around here are doing it.

So we’re going to the 3D conversion of Jaws for three bucks each at 5 pm today. I mean what the HELL, right?

I have greatly enjoyed the few times I’ve gone out to something after those months of lockdown. I’m still careful in taking precautions, but it’s just great to be out and helping in some small way to keep things alive.

Wow! I didn’t know about this at all. If it’s been talked about, I must have been out to lunch.

What a shame, that there is so much wrong with it. And to have omissions in a work like that? Abominable.
