Last night I watched the first episode of an 8-part BBC miniseries Troy: Fall of a City. It's not bad, but not good enough, and I found the casting odd and unsettling. It is the first production of the Trojan War, to my knowledge, to actually incorporate Homer's gods and goddesses as characters, but it didn't grab me, like the 1950s film Helen of Troy, with Rossana Podesta and Jacques Sernas - still my favorite Helen and Paris, in which the gods are only invoked, or actually reading the Iliad, in which the gods bicker, fret, connive, and make fools of themselves like feuding neighbors.
