The clips I saw of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" on Ebert and Friend do not make it sound/look appealing.

I think this Willie Wonka looks very frightening.

Carroll Baker just finished strutting her stuff in THE CARPETBAGGERS on TCM to a great Elmer Bernstein score - wearing slinky and shiny Edith Head clothes - hair by Nellie Manley and makeup by Wally Westmore.

For me, the movie doesn't recover from the loss of her character - it's all downhill from there.  Especially Martha Hyer as a high class you-know-what as the pressbook called her.

DR RODZINSKI - I do not believe I have posted the link to How to Dance Properly since you have been coming to HHW.

By learning these steps, you can amaze your friends and be completely comfortable on ANY dance floor in the world.

I particularly recommend the Basic Twirl, Stir the Pot of Love, and Make Love to the Crowd.  All sure to make you the envy of all who survey you.   ;D

I watched the Men's Short Program taped at the World Championships in Russia.....the programs weren't very exciting - although they were good.

Mr Egeny Pleshenko looks like a nose with eyes.

Good Evening!

Back in Fairfax... A relatively uneventful drive back up 95, however, I think I had just missed seeing one accident, and I know I saw two accidents in progress on the southbound side...  I hope no one was hurt.

I did make a stop at the "cheap" gas station that I discovered a couple of weeks ago.  Regular was now up to $2.20 a gallon - and, yes, unfortunately, that's "cheap" right now.

JRand, I think you posted that during my infancy here. Good stuff.

Dan, Good stuff!

Tomovoz, I can't remember if anyone responded, but I have Bob Lind's Debut LP on World Pacific featuring the "Elusive Butterfly", but no CD. Elmore does have him playing that song on a "Hullaballoo" DVD as well.

OK, you B-movie buffs (and you know who you are):  do any of you know of someone named Myra Nelson?

I have a new email "looney" (an affectionate term) insisting she's in "World Premiere," the Barrymore/Farmer film from 1941.  I've never heard of her, and Farmer and Virginia Dale are the only credited females in the cast.  IMDb has one Myra Nelson credit, as an extra (not for this film).

Rev-ola has been releasing a lot of the old World Pacific titles on CD, usually with bonus tracks.   They're also doing a new batch of A&M titles and it looks likely that we'll finally have Julius Wechter's A&M oeuvre out on CD.

Elmore, do you know that Max Preeo's listserve has been having a long and surprisingly intelligent discussion about orchestration over the past few days?

Hey!  It's those lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer!

Sometimes the great "outside" calls and we needs must commune with the natural world.

Or watch TV.

The DISCOVERY Channel in high definition is a CLEAR pathway to nature, and in a day as full as this one has been, is about as close as I'm going to come to the outdoors except to get in and out of a car.

DR JMK, she's a nut (an On The 20th Century reference!)

Google her under groups.  She posts a lot at alt.true-crime.  She sounds like EllenSmith's half sister.

THE OPPOSITE SEX was indeed a superior print of the movie than the one used for the laserdisc transfer, so I made the DVD copy of it. It has the same stereo surround of the laserdisc, so that's a nice extra. Metrocolor was still not gloriously deep or vibrant, but it was still more colorful than the pale laserdisc.

There were a couple of satellite transmission problems duing the dull "Yellow Gold" number, so it's not a perfect print, but it'll do just fine when I have a hankering for this guilty pleasure.

I ended up putting another James Bond film in the player this afternoon instead of clearing off the DVR. I guess I just wanted to see some stuff blow up for a change. Today's Bond was THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH.

DtM, I probably wasn't clear:  it isn't "Myra" who is my "looney."  The person emailing me is a Myra fan and is claiming to have a PR pic of her from "World Premiere."  There is a Myra Nelson at IMDb but her only credit is from the 1950s.

OIC.  Nevertheless, I'm now inspired to encourage EllenSmith to revisit ratm for a spell.

Dont know from Myra Nelson, DRJMK.  Maybe she is related to Frances' son in New York City who used to write to you.

Or maybe it's just another of Jason's personalities from the Tribute Site.
