The Broadway World review - I don't recall ever seeing a bad Broadway World review, but here it is and it sounds just like what I'm expecting to see. And a DRAMTURG? But I'm sure the "critic" at the Times will love it just BECAUSE there's a dramaturg - he LOVED Oklahoma directed by the FISH wife. And the other critics here will also love it - or maybe they'll surprise me for a change. https://www.broadwayworld.com/los-angeles/article/Review-THE-SECRET-GARDEN-at-Ahmanson-Theatre-20230227?fbclid=IwAR2TfczcMr5lxLS8MUvHltdUet-J9Fe2opWUPOJSLcl0nnXrv_PTGKWUWZg

Well that review had a nice side eye photo that fit MR BK's rant perfectly.

I know how the little girl feels - I've been onstage with people that make me feel exactly like that.

Thanks for posting this, BK! I'm very sad for Warren because I loved working with him on Finian's Rainbow, and my friend Rob Berman is the show's musical supervisor. I don't think he's conducting.

He is not conducting. A rather egoish LA flavor conductor is. And Rob and Warren have already returned to NY and are not coming back - in other words, why try out a new production and not be there to fix what isn't working? Oh wait, Mr. Carlyle probably thinks his work is perfect. I'm sure he was delightful back when he began and was specifically a choreographer. A director he isn't and he now over-choreographs everything and his Music Man choreography is a perfect example of that.

The Secret Garden was one of the first shows I went to when I moved here, and I'm sorry to say I never followed it up by either returning to it in NYC or by seeing any other production. I'd love to experience it again, done right.

I like the line in the review, “If you already bought tickets to The Secret Garden, don’t despair.”

That should be used on the posters.

So far our weather has cooperated and not rained while we were out and about.  Fingers crossed it continues to be good until after I walk home from my book discussion.

How could I have forgotten A ROOM WITH A VIEW or MAURICE? Or CARMEN  with Julia Migenes?

I need to see Maurice again and I’ve never seen Carmen.

I saw the original Broadway tour in Seattle.  It was beautiful.

And (I didn't realize until years later) Amanda Naughton (who eventually went on to Remember WENN) was Mary, Roger Bart was Dickon, AND Audra Ann McDonald was the Ayah!

Then several years ago, my sister, her boyfriend and I saw the (a?) revised version with Daisy Egan as Mary.  She was great and we all loved this version, too.  I don't know, however, if it's related to the current version. :-\
