Thank you for that link, DR Elmore!

And for the remembrances of Ben Bagley. They are fascinating, and moving.

I'm so glad I attended the final show of Into the Woods.

I sat in front row center, and was tempted to whip out my phone to snap a few shots. So tempted. But although someone had implied earlier in the week that non-flash snaps would be okay, I saw no one else doing it, and I was not going to be That Guy.

Mixed reactions of the music being piped in, because what you think you're all sounding like in the orchestra room is never what is actually heard out front. BUT... though as I said, their speaker system is not the greatest, you can absolutely hear the sound guy's genius in a lovely blending of all the elements, with not a speck of distortion or other "electronic" sound so often heard in professional and non-professional productions alike.

The production itself was fascinating and quite beautiful, even if I didn't love every little thing. I never felt comfortable with the witch being played as a puppet with the singer/actress standing nearby. Is this a "thing" elsewhere? First time I'd seen it. The disintegration of everything in Act 2 was very strikingly conceived, and the cast was excellent. I do wish I could have played the entire run, but I'm sure glad I was able to watch it, too.

I forgot to mention the odd looking macadamia nuts at the lunch buffet.

I kept insisting they were not macadamia nuts while the woman serving the food insisted they were.

Finally I said I would have my husband taste them to confirm they were safe for me to eat.

Wow! More insight into who Ben Bagley was than can be found on the whole steaming internet. His contributions to showtunes archaeology should have gotten him an honorary Tony. Thanks Elmore!

When I was starting to collect Bagley’s albums back in high school, I had no concept of time, I guess. I read in one set of his liner notes that his cat had died. I had just lost my first cat, too, and wrote him a short note.

He wrote back that he had had a new feline friend for a couple of years by then. But he shared the pain of losing a pet. And he included an album with it. In those days, that was worth big bucks. I treasure that gesture.

Majorie White Trash-Georgia Cracker Taylor Greene's 60 Minutes interview gets fact checked:

Sickening.

In a perfect world, a fact-checking piece should be on the front page of every newspaper in the country, regardless of their political affiliation.

Okay, let's try this again.

In totally useless news, I recently unearthed the sketch of my uncompleted transcription of the main title music of a highly admired motion picture. I recall doing this in 1972, from the one recording that existed on LP then. I never completed it, and except for a couple of short snippets from musicals over the years, I've never done any other real transcribing. But I was stunned to see not only how absurdly neatly I wrote it then (it looks like I was using a ruler throughout!), but how accurate I believe it actually was for a 23-yr-old DR ChasSmith. Anyhoo, for your viewing pleasure, here are all three pages. Since I didn't even write a title on it, I'll leave it that way, and some bright musically inclined person here can say what it is.  :)
