It was a quiet gathering. One member’s mother died recently and it was the first time we’s seen her since. Another member is on the West Coast where her daughter just entered hospice.

That sad, especially about the daughter.

My father loved borscht.  My mother made it with sour cream added at the end.

On Friday a friend in the Bay Area called and asked about the tax deadline. He was confused. And I was confused. But we now know the skinny: Gov Newsom postponed the tax deadline to Oct 16 for all of us affected by the severe storms, which was most of the state. And the IRS agreed to make that the deadline for Federal returns as well (!!!). It was only when I did a web search which included the word "California" that the relevant information came up. I'm sure all of you non-Californians are just thrilled to know this. But at least this one mystery has been solved.

That is very interesting, thank you.

Has anyone here been watching SUCCESSION? I have the impression I'm the only one not watching it.

It came with a side so I had a cup of the meat borscht

I didn't know there was such a thing, only borscht without meat.

Borsch was developed as a meat extender. It’s rich flavor is really all about the beef bones.

I have a weird relationship with it. It's morbidly engaging. It's all a bunch of damaged people doing nasty and damaging things to each other.

Watching Thanks for the Memories with Bob Hope. In addition to that fine song, the movie features Two Sleepy People.

Living with Bill Nighy (a movie, not a series) has become available for streaming, and I am looking forward to seeing that.

Bones then, not junks of meat.
