AbeBooks has released their list of highest sales in the first quarter of 2023.

Among them:

A first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, for $85,620.00

A first edition of Casino Royale for $21,570.00

So, this week we have Tyler and Scott here doing this and that to make our house just presentable enough - roof, wall, and ceiling repair in the family room, new flooring in the downstairs bathroom, and some siding replacement around the new front steps.  Being tired of this kind of stuff is one of our big reasons for initiating the move to a retirement community.

Does this mean they take care of all repairs?

Yes, and lawn care and snow removal.

Nice.  Would you be in a home, or condo?

Vibes there is not a third repeat of this.

Well, the night before both trips to the hospital we’d had carry out from the same Chinese restaurant.  Might be coincidental, but we’re crossing that off our list anyway.

I would pass on that restaurant from now on.

Right now we’re on the list for a stand-alone house, but if the right unit became available in the “condo” building we’d consider it.  Apparently, though, those are even more in demand than the houses.

Of course Mr Howard Hawks directed Mr Walter Brennan to his first Oscar as Best Supporting Actor (first time for that award) in 1936 in Come and Get It - which co starred Miss Frances Farmer in a dual role.

Producer Samuel Goldwyn was in the hospital and Hawks was taking the story in a different direction - when Goldwyn returned he fired Hawks and William Wyler finished the picture much to the displeasure of Miss Farmer.

Mr Hawks once said that Frances Farmer was "the best actress I ever worked with - bar none."

If you have never seen Come And Get It - you might give it a look for Brennan and Farmer.

Thanks, all. Thank you to Eagle-Eyed George for catching that big post number! I saw it was coming and then I forgot about it. Just like I saw my car was approaching 100k miles and didn’t look again until it was at 100,001.

I hit the big 200 a few weeks ago. This is a secondhand car that I haven't had all that long. But since I'd been diligent with my prior car (I think I have photos of both 100k and 200k for that one), I actually left myself little notes about its upcoming birthday!  
Fortunately, I was able to ensure that I'd be in a good place to stop for the pictures when it happened.

I hit the big 200 a few weeks ago. This is a secondhand car that I haven't had all that long. But since I'd been diligent with my prior car (I think I have photos of both 100k and 200k for that one), I actually left myself little notes about its upcoming birthday!  
Fortunately, I was able to ensure that I'd be in a good place to stop for the pictures when it happened.

That's really cool, ChasSmith!  My Ford Escort more than likely rolled over 200,000 miles, but the odometer broke and I never got it fixed.  I don't know why.

After our afternoon walk I took our upstairs dog for a walk as his mother is recovering from ankle surgery.  She broke it in three places

To my shock it was pouring when we walked outside.  We didn't stay long, just long enough for him to pee and for us to get soaked.

Fortunately Keith was planning on us returning here so they could visit.  I yelled at Keith to get towels to dry him off while I got my wet clothes off.

We had a nice visit before I took him home.

I wish the rain would go away while she recovers, it would make life much easier.
