There were three sets, but we left after the first, since Kerry at that point had been wake for 24 hours, having woken at 4 am GMT to catch her plane

A friend of ours decided to surprise us by turning up at the second set

But we caught a cab back to the hotel and went to sleep.

While at breakfast I realized I had received some messages from the Vixter the night before

I seemed to have accidentally “clicked” on them without noticing, so it appeared I had read and not responded to her messages

A little background now…

Since she was little she has always made us personalized hand drawn cards for special occasions. They will have caricatures of us and reference a memory or inside joke and they’re very special.

Her message was that since she had a new job she has been really busy and hadn’t had time to make my card yet but she would call on Mothers’ Day

So as a joke I sent her a voice message, in my best hurt, annoyed , angry mom voice

“ sure , you don’t have time to make a card for your own mother, but you have time to bake a cake for your work buddies. THEY didn’t sound 16 hours in labor with you. FINE. I see where your priorities lie.”

I immediately followed it with another voice message, laughing and saying I was joking, it was fine, I was looking forward to talking to her Sunday and I’d love to see the cake picture

After traumatizing my daughter, Kerry and I headed over to Little Island, the artificially created island park just off the lower west side

After we were throughly dizzy we had a little rest then headed over to the high line

This is an old elevated train track that has been reimagined as a garden /park / walkway its 1.45-mile-long and runs from Gansevoort St. to 34th St. on Manhattan's West Side.

We walked up to 34th street
