I never understood the issue with beans in chili. Can we just call it something else and still enjoy the yummy bean-filled concoction.
Why are there a thousand different kinds of pie but chili’s got rules?

There’s no sweetener in a margarita either, but people insist on putting simple syrup, agave nectar, sugar or some unwholesome addition. And they have the gall to call their polluted versions margaritas too

It turns out that the small fridge where the whipped cream can was kept, froze the can of whipped cream, so that the whipped cream couldn't be dispensed onto our fake pastries!

Sorry for laughing ;D

Don't worry, Jane!  We were laughing, too!

That explains why sometimes they are way too sweet.

A question for DR Elmore:

I know you're not enamored of The Cradle Will Rock, but maybe you can shed some light on this:

The copy of the piano-vocal score that's floating around out there is manuscript, but with the principal songs having been typeset at some point and inserted into that. I'm not finding any sheet music arrangements - not that I've looked too hard - but what is the actual story on its publication or its rental materials? Concord doesn't list it at all, even though the former rental script had been Tams-Witmark. Just really curious about this.

The person you need to speak to is Joshie, since he orchestrated it for a smaller ensemble when it was one of the Encores! summer shows around seven years ago. I do know that the Marc Blitzstein estate is now intertwned withb hte Kurt Weill Foundation and I believe they now handle the rights to The Cradle Will Rock.

Kenneth was responsible for perpetuating a lot of BS myths via his Hollywood Babylon books. But gee I loved reading those.

DR ChasSmith:

Among all those alien clothes, did you find a shirt or pair of pants that you now refuse to believe you would ever have worn much less paid for?

I have such a photo of me in a shirt...and I recall thinking it looked SO GOOD on me.

Now, I am happy I wasn't simply shot on sight by the fashion police.

I prefer my chili without beans, but don't mind if there aren't too many beans.

It's all a matter of where you learned to eat chili, I think.

I have always enjoyed a hot dog with mustard, onions and bean-less chili.

When I was in Oakland, I learned that a place called Kasper's had great chili hot dogs.   I figured it was true, because there was always a police car or two in their parking lot.

So, one evening after work, I stopped in and asked for two chili dogs to go.

I saw them take the buns, apply mustard, the wieners and onions and then they held each dog over a pot and ladled some liquid over the hot dogs.

I looked at them rather suspiciously and then asked what they had put on my hot dogs.

The server looked at me incredulously and declared it to have been chili.  To my eyes, it looked like colored water with beans.

I suggested, as I was leaving, that they refresh themselves on the concept of chili and start using ground beef to give it substance.  That chili powder in water with beans is NOT chili.

I never went back.

I seem to be grieving my losses longer than most.

I look forward to a day when I sob less than 5 hours/day.

It surprises me when people tell me that I should be over it by now.

It took me a year to get "over" my dad's death. I had to settle the estate and every time I tried to work on it it just stirred up all that grief. But it did get better.

Iris, do you use homeopathy at all? Ignatia is the homeopathic remedy for grief. I found it very helpful. It let me function while I grieved. Ignatia 30C, found at Whole Foods or other stores. You can probably find it on Amazon, too.

I just had a bagel, toasted - half with cream cheese (my own olive/pimiento spread) and half with butter - with everything seasoning sprinkled on the lot.

And coffee.

I had a yen for a bagel this morning. A REAL bagel, not the gluten-free ones I usually have. I had some real ones in the freezer. Not fresh, but still good!
