It's that last one you have to watch out for, especially.

The six-part documentary is called "The Story of Late Night" and airs on Max and Discovery+.

I know it will make me sad for what we've lost, but the talk show documentary sounds good.

Johnny Carson was a late night staple for me in the 1970s. He certainly wasn't new to us, but my roommate and I had become big fans of Don Rickles in the year or so before moving from Cleveland to L.A., and I think it was shortly after we arrived there in June 1972 that Rickles was the guest host for a week. We watched that religiously, then our appreciation for Carson carried on for a long time. I never actually got tired of him or anything, but there were periods later when I simply changed my late night viewing habits, so it was off and on with the late night shows, and I eventually brought Letterman into my fold little by little. ALWAYS returned to Carson, though, right up to the end.

The memory just became very specific:  It was indeed just after we got to L.A., because we didn't have a TV yet and we made the deliberate effort to go out and rent one and have it in the apartment just in time for the Rickles week. We kept that one for a while, then finally bought one. But it was there, at that time, for Rickles and Carson.

After Carson, I outright rejected watching Leno, I stayed with Letterman off and on, and in the later years I outright rejected Conan and the others. I finally gave up on the late night shows.

DR George's opening night is ... NOW?

I swear they just started rehearsals two weeks ago!   :)

I guess I liked Mighty Mouse, but I sort of remember that as something I could take or leave. But I could be completely wrong about that.

What I never fail to think of, though, when somebody mentions Mighty Mouse, is the Andy Kaufman routine on one of the earliest - if not the very first - episode of Saturday Night Live in '75.

TOD

These are on top of the to-be-watched pile:

To Live and Die in L.A.
The Bride Wore Black
The Conversation
Prime Cut

How's that for a motley selection? These are titles that I've seen some mention of in the past week or so, which instantly rang my bell as being time to watch them. In the case of Prime Cut, of course, it was DR John G.'s mention of it that intrigued me, and I still believe I never watched it. But we'll see.

Just posted by a local (and trusted) meteorologist:

This could be the best Memorial Day weather weekend ever. I’m not sure I could have dialed it up better if I tried. Looks like 80 degrees and sunny all through early next week.

That's good, because this holiday weekend is so often cool or overcast or rainy or all of the above. Alternatively, in one or two years, it was a hot and humid HELL. I hope this bodes well for the summer.
