From DR John:

Quote
As soon as you say, “Don’t do this” or “Don’t do that,” pretty soon your kid is up on the roof smoking a cigarette they stole out of your backpack. That’s just the way kids are. The more books that you ban, the more things you tell the child to sneak around looking for. Whereas if, for example, the book wasn’t banned, but it was assigned, that’s when the child might not read it. Children need to read a whole lot of different points of view to understand their own point of view. And as they read all those other points of view, their own ideas about things form themselves.

Jane Smiley

Excellent point.

I used to work with a woman named Marge, who had two kids. Marge had a somewhat different approach to child rearing. Instead of prohibiting her kids from the usual swear words she told them they couldn’t say “stupid”. When her kids would get mad the’d say, “Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!” The usual swear words held little interest.

Wow, a shocker this afternoon.

My work team is small - less than 12 folks. About 4 years ago, just before the pandemic, 3 team members were suddenly not there one day. Just - vanished. With no real explanation.

Well, today we found out why. The state Attorney General has charged the three with financial fraud to benefit family members.

That is shocking. But why are you only now finding out about it? They were trying to obtain insurance for family members? They wouldn’t have access to any sort of cash, would they?

Glad to see DR Iris posting. John G, too. As well as everyone else, of course. I hope DR Laura returns and tells us about her hikes and other adventures.

DR George:   I know that buying 35 LPs seems a bit profligate, but I was in Europe, with Travelers Checks bought with money I had been saving for just such a splurge should I ever be lucky enough TO splurge.

It’s just hauling them around that seems much.

Agreed!

I had a call from the post office saying my package is still in customs and that the post office doesn't have it.

Yikes!! :o

The criminal charges were just filed this week.

It wasn't the insurance per se; the employees were entering false data into our systems which triggered state payments to outside vendors run by or owned by their relatives. Classic embezzlement.

Great Leader was selling this stuff to his followers not very long ago. Now, the rainbows would probably trigger them into a veritable tizzy.

Hmmm....    a guy I worked with was also fired for embezzlement at one of my first jobs out of college. There seems to be a trend here, with ME as the common denominator!

I polled my co-workers today on pizza and ranch dressing.

One other said she would bypass the ranch and dip her pizza slices in melted garlic butter.

If they're not embezzling, they're desecrating their pizza.

But this will be the first year that Juneteenth is a state holiday, and that will fall on a Monday.
