In my ANNIE research, I had run across a picture of an absolutely legit mock-up poster showing that at one point, in a presumably more campy version, Bernadette Peters was actually being talked about to play Little Orphan Annie in the musical version.

DR FJL, that mock up was done by none other than Martin Charnin, himself, during early development of the show.  It appears in the Making of Annie book.  I think he was actually serious about that casting at the time.

I'm Uploading!  I'm Uploading!

(Trouble is, I clipped my fingernails last night and I'm having difficulty in removing the protective cellophone wrapping.  I will need to carefully use a sharp instrument in order to proceed.)

Good Morning!

I have to say, it was rather pleasant sleeping in an air-conditioned room last night.  And since they A/C is turned on in the living room too right now, the whole apartment is quite climate-pleasing.  -Or something like that.

...Now I'm just trying to decided when I'm going to venture outside today... In the heat... Which I will have to do eventually... So...

How 'bout an HHW gathering on Monday, October 3?  Danise will already be in town, I think, and my flight is due in at 12:30pm.

Hmm...

I'm just trying to imagine DR Danise in SBNY...

Oh, my. An HHW gathering at a "special interest establishment" Jose, what have you started  ;)

Actually, it could be a lot of fun, and Jose and Jason could run interference for any "indecent proposals" offered to Rodzinski  ;) ;) There's no nudge smiley so I can't continue.

Hmmm...

Jose, I am so jealous that you went to Musical Monday at Splash last night.  I love Musical Mondays and have been trying to get Rodzinski to come with me to check it out.  Let us know if you want company the next time you go.

DEAL!

And you mentioned in a later post, it is a little bit less "special interest" on Mondays - at least until 11:15 or so...  When the tables are moved off the floor and the "pedestals" start moving on...

I've never been to Splash on Musical Mondays or any other night of the week. I've been to Posh - that's not so bad. Jose and I would be happy to keep the hounds at bay for DR Rodzinski.

DEAL!!!

Well, why don't we plan on going next Monday then.  Come one, Come all!

:)

There is a $5.00 cover charge - which isn't too bad compared to what they charge later in the week - sometimes as high as $20.00!  UGH!

Be forewarned, however, that the drinks are served in very small glasses and are very expensive.  We ordered four standard rail drinks last night.  $30.00!  I guess you're paying for the bartenders' gym memberships.  ;)

Ooops...

Well... I thought I had posted an answer to your question yesterday...  Well...

Here it is now... -And I swear I posted this yesterday... ???

Right now, I'm supposed to start Damn Yankees rehearsals on November 8.  But, things, as they say often in this business, are subject to change.

So...  And, actually, after some conversations and chance meetings I've had the past few days... Anything is possible.

As for bad Annie casting...

I would LOVE to see and hear a sort of updated version of it with the Broadway cast of The Life.  Lillias White as Annie, Chuck Cooper as Daddy Warbucks, that woman with "the HAIR" as Pepper...

Hmmm... Maybe I need to call Seth Rudetsky.  ;)

Stop giving me the Gaslight treatment.  So, you're busy in November.  Oh, well, we might have had employment for you.

I shall now be on my way to the LACC meeting.

...And one final comment about Splash Bar New York...

Splash was one of the first "bars" in New York that I ever went too some 15-17 years ago.  *I was grandfathered in under the Legal Age Drinking laws - I could order beer being under 21, but no hard liquor.

Back then, it was a place where men went to watch men.  In showers that were behind the bar area.  Yes, men in showers in a bar.

They remodeled the place a couple of years ago.  A multi-millon dollar renovation and expansion.  It was amazing walking in there last night and not recognizing it at all.  And the showers were gone.  There is still entertainment there, but it's not as "blatant" as it used to be.  For better or worse.

However, the thing that I liked the most about my return visit there last night was that it was now a No Smoking zone - like the rest of NYC.  Ah... So nice to come home from a bar NOT smelling like a pack of Marlboro's.

*The "upshot" of the smoking ban, however, has made it easier to find where the bars are in town.  Just look for wherever a group of people are outside on the sidewalk... smoking.

;)

OH!  And in true musical-theatre queen fashion... As soon as the musical theatre clips stopped, the crowd began to clear out pretty fast.  -Even though the "entertainment" had begun to start on the "pedestals".  -Although, it was a work/school night, so that could have had something to do with it too.

;)

Question for BK or other DRs familiar with the Angeles of Los area...what is the best road to take to get from Burbank to Los Angeles...I will be driving around 9 am...according to my map it looks like Laurel Canyon might be the way to go....but then I don't know what kind of traffic that would put me into...Carolyn's husband told me I may want to avoid the freeway.

Where in Burbank, and where in Los Angeles?  Cross-streets will do.

Oh... And I guess you could also do a Dreamgirls take on Annie

Annie - Jennifer Holliday
Daddy Warbucks - Obba Babatunde
Grace - Sheryl Lee Ralph
Rooster - Cleavant Derricks
Lily - Deborah Burrell

etc., etc.,  etc...

And it always amazes me the people who were in that original cast in ensemble roles:  Paul Binotto (a frequent Plaid), Phylicia Ayers-Allen (TV's Mrs. Cosby), David Thome (A Chorus Line alum), Brenda Braxton (she was a swing), Cheryl Alexander, Brenda Pressley, Charles Randolph-Wright (who is now a writer and director), etc., etc., etc...

Going from Burbank Hilton on Hollywood Way to Holt Ave in Los Angeles.

But once in Los Angeles I have my way mapped out, just suggestions on the best/easiest road to get from the valley to LA so as to avoid traffic jams or other unseemly driving distractions.

It looked like I could take Laurel Canyon to Sunset and then I would be on my way.
