I slept late this morning, not getting up until 9:55 a.m.
I almost got up shortly before 7 a.m., and that was because of some creature on the other side of the window above my bed croaking out his mating call for what seemed an interminable time.
I waited for a bit and then decided I would get up to make coffee. Suddenly, he stopped, my brain shut down and I drifted off for a couple of more hours.
Living in a rural community, on a pond, has its advantages and some disadvantages. The latter includes wildlife doing its mating in my side yard. Geese, frogs, and all other manner of living critters mate themselves into a frenzy every year. Usually, it's the geese I hear the most. But if I sit outside in early summer, in the evenings, there is a symphony of sound.
This is why I have an Amazon Echo unit in my bedroom. I tell it to play "rain sounds" each evening and I adjust the volume to whatever noises come from outside.
More often than not, the rain sounds play all through the night and don't stop unitl I tell "Alexa" to stop.
Sometimes, however, Alexa stops on her own...and I find myself waking up to total quiet and wondering why I have awakened and why is it so quiet. Only takes a few seconds, though...to have the sound resume and drift back off to sleep.
