I try to remember not to say "no problem" as that is also a bit of a rude response.

Everything went well, the weather was great. I was moving on schedule, and it all went to hell when I got to my bank. They were closed; the new branch wasn't opening until Monday, August 7. The lady I spoke to last Friday is a god damned liar. I walked to Staples, got a taxi and came home. I have to step out either tomorrow or Friday for my Access-a-Ride cash.

I do admit to give sarcastic "You are welcome" responses when people don't say thank you.

TOD:

ASK BK:

When you are writing a murder mystery, at what point in the process do you begin to know who done it?

Never at the start. I go on the journey with the detective, whether Adriana or Harry Stearns. I usually decide about halfway through, sometimes a bit later, but not much. For Writer's Block and Rewind, I knew going in because those aren't detective books.

DR Rodzinski, I hope the staff that told Mrs R it was ok to be 10 minutes late apologized for the doctor leaving, and for not calling back to say he left.

They were apologetic. The doctor said she had to leave because she had a headache. This was for the results of a cancer treatment my MIL is undergoing, by the way.

Good Morning.  I think I'm all caught up.

Last nights run-through was better than Monday's so I do believe we are on our way to opening on Friday.  First audience is tomorrow and that's usually friends, so that doesn't really count because they will applaud for anything.  Friday is opening, probably friends again. LOL.   I don't think my banjo player has a clue one way or another.  As long as he's picking away and making banjo sounds, that's fine with me.  Sometimes I just wanted to find a banjo animatronic and play all the parts on a keyboard.  It will be fine.

What do folks feel about that old cabaret trope where singers say "thank you" to their audience during the song playout but before the audience has started clapping? Is that passive aggressive?

In the Will Farrell/Ryan Reynolds holiday musical "Spirited," there is a whole razzle-dazzle showstopping number about using "good afternoon" as a passive-aggressive put-down.

I hope DR Ron Pulliam will share the outcome of his dilemma posed yesterday. If he's comfortable doing so. Once it's over.

Good to hear DR Matthew's dress rehearsals are proceeding well. Too bad about the banjo player. I daresay we've all been there with one instrument or another.

That's better than the ADDAMS I attended a couple of weeks ago, in which I could often not hear either of the reeds or the trombone. Actually, I think what happened there is that the keyboards were in the sound system but the others weren't miked. And I really don't like it when that's done.

As for my current musical adventures, and I'm sure DR Matthew is way ahead of me on these pieces:

I'm crash-learning "I'm Not Afraid..." from Songs For a New World and the title song from The Light in the Piazza for an upcoming recital, and there have been moments in which I feel like I'm struggling to read music and play a piano for the first time.

(And yes, of course there'll be some Sondheim. Fortunately, only "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" and "I Know Things Now". It could be worse. Much worse.)

I found a youtube video of Audra MacDonald singing a mashup of "What Can You Lose" and "As the Days Go By".

Performance 10; Arrangement 0

When Audra sings, it's heaven.  But there are too many lengthy waits while the tunes try to reassert themselves into the right melody.

Sound and video quality not so hot, though.

I didn’t like the Sutton-Sierra mashup of Losing My Mind and Not a Day Goes By. Individually, the sngs were lovely, but the mashup finale wasn’t.
