I didn’t know that William Friedkin has been married to studio executive Sherry Lansing since 1991.

DD JP is home.  The cone they sent him home with is way too big, I think I have a smaller one or I'll go get him a blow-up donut.  He's not very happy - sounds frustrated not necessarily in pain.  He just doesn't seem to know where to put himself with the cone.  Other than that, we was a good patient, and now he's chipped as well.

Poor baby.  Does he need to wear the cone while you are watching him?

Yeah - especially now since everything is "new".  I'll take it off when he eats, and maybe on his walks - but for now, he should wear it.  They say 10 days, but we'll see how well things heal.  He's a good patient, though.

I'm sure he will appreciate eating and walking without it.

We’re currently in a short storm lull.
It’s expected to get worse at around 10PM.

Tornado watch in New Jersey and Pennsylvania now.

Thanks for the update.

This is the first place I have lived with an underground garage which is why I wondered if it would be a possibility.  Research says for your car yes, not for people.

I see that one tree has been hit by lightning.

The temps dropped 20 degrees in 20 minutes.

I remember those quick temperature drops.

Iris, does that bathroom by any chance have a tub in it?

One of Friedkin’s first breakthrough jobs was directing one of the last episodes of “Alfred Hitchcock Presents.” Hitchcock would reportedly scold the young filmmaker for not wearing a tie while on set.

Alfred Hitchcock was such a character. 😊

Yes, Jane, both bathrooms have tubs.
Could probably sleep in one of them, if necessary.

“ Friedkin died before his latest movie, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, could hit screens at the Venice Film Festival beginning on 30 August.”

Wow…still has one more film release.

Friedkin beat out some serious heavyweights to win the Best Director Academy Award for The French Connection at the 1972 ceremony. Also up for the statuette that year were Stanley Kubrick (A Clockwork Orange), Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) and Norman Jewison (Fiddler on the Roof). He would go up against more heavy hitters with The Exorcist two years later. George Roy Hill won that year for The Sting, also besting Bernardo Bertolucci (Last Tango in Paris), Ingmar Bergman (Cries & Whispers) and George Lucas (American Graffiti).

We sure had some great film choices in 1972 and 1974.

So different from today, unfortunately.

I have read that the tub is the best place to be.  What is the news telling you?

People have been asking me what the difference is between a tornado “watch” and a tornado “warning”.

I explain it this way:

A “watch” means that I have all of the ingredients necessary to make cupcakes.

A “warning” means that I am eating cupcakes. Right now.

Jane, the news suggests staying indoors, away from glass windows, and to go to the lowest floor possible.

The bathroom makes sense to me, as it’s in a hallway with no windows.

I remember when tornadoes ripped through Louisville back in the early 1970s. Horrible day.

April 3-4, 1974. 330 people died in that spree.

John, I remember that. Devastating.

I always associate tornado weather with Easter.
Seems like that was usually the time of year for them to form.

Interesting it doesn't mention the bathtub.  I am going to research that a bit more.

John, there was a tornado watch earlier today for counties east of Louisville, but that’s been cancelled, thank goodness.

Bathtub
Yes! Bathtubs can be a very good place to hide. Usually, these are very tightly screwed to the ground. You cannot very easily pull these out of their bases. Many times, it has been seen that bathtubs are among the very few things that survive the devastation of a tornado. Get a mattress and get inside the tub and pull the mattress over your body. This will give you cover from all the sides.

Not able to pick up a heavy mattress by myself, however.

A heavy blanket will suffice.

I don’t think it will get to that point.
Staying positive.

In our first house in Michigan we only had a dark, dreary area to stay in.  It was a long space that was a bit like a side attic where we stored stuff and had the laundry room.
