A year ago today, I learned of the death of my dear friend Keith Viagas, whose body washed up on the shore near his home in Sag Harbor. We met in the mid-1990s when I worked at The Drama Book Shop and he worked with NY City Opera. We became great friends, and thanks to him, I saw nearly every City Opera production while he worked with them. After an internal power struggle among his City Opera superiors, he left, worked for a while with conductor Eve Queler, helped me prepare the 2001 recording of Babes in Toyland, and eventually we lost touch with each other: Keith gave up his NY apartment to move to the house he and his partner owned in Sag Harbor. I once spent a lovely weekend with them there and had my first and only swim in the saltwater of the Long Island sound.

About four years ago, I found Keith on Facebook; he was working as a chef in a Long Island restaurant and seemed happy.  I never suspected our reunion would be so brief. RIP, dear friend.

I wonder what it could be?

Finished A Room of One’s Own today. Sixth Virginia Woolf this year. Which will be next? Orlando again? Or one I haven’t read? The Waves?

Both were part of a five-pack of food movies. I didn’t care for No Reservations. Maybe I’ll watch Chef again. Or Julie & Julia.

DR Ron, did you see my posts last night about The White Lotus?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I did.  Will know more to say after episodes 5 and 6 of Season 1.

Season 1 is finished.  I was totally NOT expecting the death that transpired.  Very odd.  I also did not think the newlyweds would make it...and not quite sure I buy into Rachel's conclusion that she was happy when she reunited with her husband at the airport.

I liked the Mossbacher story line.  Glad about the husband/wife resolution.  Still don't like their daughter or her friend.  The son is choosing a path very few young men of 16 ever have the guts to do. Am rooting for him, but not sure he will be part of future seasons.

The Tonya character gets on my last nerve. So much indecision, emotional neediness, thoughtless behavior and overwrought conduct drives me to distraction.  I felt really bad for Belinda.  I also am wondering what was in that envelope Tonya gave to Belinda.  It looked like a huge wad of cash, and I thought it might have been for the holistic business Belinda wants, but it got tossed in drawer and the business plan tossed in the trash.

I saw a lot of things I never thought I would see...things I never wanted to see...and things/actions I don't want to see again.

Will, of course, be happy to discuss the series with you, Iris.

Robbie Robertson has died. He was, of course, in The Band. But he also was the music producer of a great many Martin Scorsese movies, including my favorite, King of Comedy.

Texas state fair foods. I like the sound of the cherry dessert, but not the pizza.
