Too warm, too humid, and I could not get to sleep Once I did, I had many strange dreams I no longer remember, except for this: I don't remember what I was up to but I had two strange hand-held players and earphones. Each player emitted different synthesized tunes and rhythms. Then, my friend Stan Luce, who died about fifteen years ago, showed up with a third player, and we passed them around.
Stan was a professor in the French Dept., and I met him in the first summer season of Miami University Summer Theatre, 1966, in which he played the romantic lead in the mystery-comedy The Bat. When I was a grad student, I took a course in contemporary French drama with him. We were never close friends, but I admired him greatly.
