I almost to death on a Necco Wafer in the 2nd grade, so they moved way down on my list.

I forgot the Hollywood Candy Bar - I liked them, too.

I'm guessing you left out the word choked.  That would have been a good reason to stop eating them.  I simply did not like the taste.

You mean flavored chalk? Blech.

LOL. I do not like flavored chalk.

The 5th Avenue with an almond on top.

I could not eat almonds at all when I was young due to my face and throat swelling up.

I still don't like to eat raw ones as they make my mouth itch.

Raisinets were always one of my top favorites, but now that I've gotten used to the dark chocolate ones, I can't go back to the regular milk chocolate ones. Well, that's because I did, in fact, go back to the regular milk chocolate ones just a few weeks ago when the theeder didn't have anything else I wanted. And they were okay, but I wouldn't choose to buy them again when I can have the dark.

I make my own raisinetts with a handful of raisins and chocolate chips mixed together.

Milk Duds were indeed a favorite at the movies. I might have gotten those more often than any other kind when I was a kid. But I didn't have any for many years, and when I tried them -- damn, I wish I knew when that might have been -- I thought they were just kind of waxy and unseemly. I wish I knew whether that was before or after they changed them.

I feel the same way.  I'm not sure they changed as much as that I changed.

I was saddened when a British friend posted just the other day about how poor a second American chocolate candy is to the British equivalents. And I mean direct equivalents, like some of the famous candy bars we all know and love. It's because the U.S. doesn't require the same level of cocoa [something or other] content as the Brits and Europeans do in their chocolate, and the difference is apparently pretty obvious. And remarkable. I've never had the pleasure, myself, but he was posting about Twix, specifically, and even that difference is remarkable. I wonder if any of these can be found at various "international" shops.

This doesn't surprise me. When we travel I often buy KitKats where I don't buy them here.

There was a candy shop in Michigan that had the best malted milk balls and these amazing chocolate covered dried strawberries.  For a number of years after we moved I had the chocolate covered dried strawberries shipped to me.

The book is By Her Own Design: The Story of Ann Lowe, Society's Best-Kept Secret by Piper Huguley.

It is a very interesting story, one that deserves being told.

Rodzinski, so happy you liked the book. Do write an Amazon review if you can.

While I don't recommend the book, I do suggest reading about Ann Lowe, the black women who designed beautiful dresses.  She also designed Jackie Kennedy's wedding dress.

Has anyone read The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen? It’s a kind of gay version of Shanna, the Blazing Novel of Eternal Love, by Miss Kathleen E. Woodiwiss.
