I was up by 5:15 this morning. This is my day with Dr Egelman, cardiologist, to check my heart amd circulation with am echocardiogram, I understand the actual test will take about an hour. When I am home, I must call Lenox Hill Hospital immediately to let the know if I will be having the hip replacement tomorrow or not.

If the surgery is out, I will spend some time looking for a new, improved walker since I will be dependent on that.

Yesterday, I had a good time with Joshie at City Center. We've bee friends for around 16 years now, and he still amazes me. I thought I had good ears, but he was hearing things I completely missed in the original cast recording of Once Upon A Mattress, which was recorded by Kapp Records on what I think was a shoestring budget. If Goddard Lieberson had recorded it for Columbia, the sound would have been spectacular and we'd have far fewer questions about what was going on in the small orchestra of around 16-20 players.

I think the most fancy affair I ever attended was the 100th performance-Pulitzer win party at Steve Sondheim's home for Sunday in the Park with George, which was truly spectacular. I think the only thing missing was a band, but since I'm old and my memory is going, there might have been one. The second was the 2009 opening night party for the Broadway revival of Finian's Rainbow.

I remember going to the grand opening of the Armand Hammer exhibit at the University of Kentucky art museum. Gov. John Brown was there with Phyllis George. The Hammers were there. The art was there. The Hammers gave us a private tour. I remember falling in love with Corot’s trees.

I also remember having dinner at the governor’s mansion in Albany when Mario Cupmo was governor. It was an editors dinner. He was warm. But the dinner seemed interminable. And I had a 90-minute drive home afterward.
