I have never seen Heartburn OR When Harry Met Sally OR Sleepless In Seattle -

I have however seen The Goodbye Girl - the first time on network television.  I loved the movie - Quinn Cummings not so much - but all of the scenes that MR BK wrote about in the notes were so good....and the early scene when our leading lady is accosted by muggers and loses her purse and groceries was so realistically done - it was frightening.  And the visit to the dressing room was EVERYTHING.

As was the clueless director yelling:  "My mother LOVED it!"

Glad you had a good opening night, DR George.

Thanks, Singdaw!

I was leary of the musical version of The Goodbye Girl because - get the firing squad ready - I hate the performances of both Bernadette Peters AND Martin Short.....they set my tith on etch, as Ricky Ricardo would say.  :D

I did buy the Cast CD - but I do not think I have ever played it all the way through....

I only vaguely remember seeing The Goodbye Girl in a movie theater, and I remember virtually nothing of it. Isn't that awful? I'd say it's time to check that one out again. And I know nothing of the musical.

As for those other movies? Not a one! I've certainly seen clips, but I was never drawn to see any of them.

Sounds like a successful opening, DR George! How many performances are there?

Just last night and this afternoon's matinee.

It's actually a fund raiser for Zonta Club of Olympia, one of the two local chapters of Zonta International.

And when trying to find their website URLs, I came across this one-minute introduction to the evening that I didn't know about:

I enjoyed being serenaded by DR GEORGE and his cast mates.

And we enjoyed serenading you, Jrand!

I enjoyed the original Broadway cast recording, but then, I've never seen the show.

But if you think that's bad, the London cast recording is MUCH worse.

Marvin Hamlisch wrote a whole new score (except I think they kept one and a half songs) with a new lyricist and none of the new score was better...in my humble opinion (IMHO in Internet lingo).

It was horrifyingly bad. After Peters' first number, I said to my friend "I bet she's out for the second act. Her voice is shot." No, she stayed in the whole stinking show.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a tour of the towns of Iowa as named in The Music Man?

Do you mean Dubuque, Des Moines, Davenport, Marshalltown, Mason City, Keokuk, Ames and Clear Lake?

A good Sunday morning to all of you.

This morning is dark, gray and wet in Johnston SC, part of the CSRA above the "ridge line" of South Carolina.

We used to have a news thing called "The Ridge Citizen"....all the news about folks on the ridge.   My PaPa (my mom's dad) used to call it "the Ridge astonisher".  Lots of grip-and-grin photos (you know what those are, right?  Unnatural handshakes with bodies turned toward camera and big old toothy grins being displayed),

There is now an entity called "The Edgefield Advertiser" published once a week.  What sets it apart and makes it readable is its colorful letters to the editor section.  We have some remarkably "odd" people here, many of whom would put QAnon to shame and then some.

All of the preceding, except the greeting, was apropos of absolutely nothing.  Just a brain wheeze.

I slept so very, very well last night.  I cannot quite comprehend it.  I was in bed before midnight and I arose a mere 30 minutes ago.

Were there dreams?  Why, yes.  Bless you for asking.

And were they repetitive dreams?

NO!  There were plenty of disparate, crazy, non-inimidating dreams, but none repeated.  I had a plethora of subject matter, including one seemingly indecent proposal that was really only a bid for companionship and a cuddle.

No, Jack...there will be no elucidation of that dream.

As I mentioned earlier, it is a gray, dark and wet day...and I could just as easily pop back under the covers and try to snooze some more.

But then I might miss the most important part of this day yet to come. Yes, the weekly Zoom chat looms high on the horizon.

Oh, yes...still slowly returning are my senses of taste and smell.

Even at low levels, it's overwhelming.  And, yes, it's time to deep clean.

Hello everyone....we have a very fun new Broadway Radio Show.  Douglas J. Cohen joins me to chat about his new book How To Survive A Killer Musical, a behind the scenes look a the making of the musical No Way To Treat A Lady (with a nice shout out to Bruce Kimmel for producing the cast recording, which has given the show an afterlife).  Then we move on to his latest work The Big Time, which has just released a cast recording with a wonderful group of performers including Santino Fontana, Debbie Gravitte, Will Swenson and Jackie Hoffman

Check it out

The last storm that blew through cooled the temperatures down a bit. The mornings are so much nicer to walk now. So much better than when it was 96 at 6 a.m.

Yesterday I gave a talk at a library. Out of the 29 people who signed up, only one mother with two bored kids and one teacher showed up.
