Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Is it early this year?

No, this is when it always is.

Since the kids had school off, I took them to a movie. The Paw Patrol movie. Which allowed me a brief nap. But they enjoyed it. Then we went to a pumpkin patch with a train ride and so forth. A fun time. And the rains held off just enough.

I was confused this morning as to whether it was Columbus Day. The retailers usually keep us informed of such things: Huge Memorial Day sale! Labor Day sale! Columbus Day sale! I saw a sale or two, but no mention of Columbus Day. Do we no longer speak of this?

Sigh. I can’t keep up.

I did laundry, paid a bill, and went to Trader Joe’s. I’d rather go to the pumpkin patch and ride the train.

Back from a full day of family events culminating in the memorial service. It was actually a very uplifting day, in the end.

I'm glad it was uplifting.

Concerned about my friend in Israel I asked if she had a shelter room.  Read her response.

"Yes we do. However, the problem is that you cannot lock them from the inside. They were designed to protect people from rockets. The only way to keep the terrorists from opening the reinforced steel door is to use all your strength to hold the handle so the terrorists can't turn it and open the door. I guess now someone will come up with a way to lock them. You see the picture. To open, you move the handle up and to the right. So you need to prevent that by using all your strength to keep someone from doing that. An extended family member did that for the 2.5 HOURS that terrorists were in their house and saved his family. Soldiers killed the terrorists."

Oh, no!

I can't imagine holding the handle down for ten minutes, let alone 2.5 hours.

I believe this day has become too much of a political hot potato for most retailers

There are those who wish to replace the day with Indigenous Peoples Day, there are those who are adamant it remain Columbus Day…either way they turn the retailers are liable to lose customers or possibly suffer a boycott

Columbus is no longer viewed as having discovered America...as far as Europeans go, the Vikings were much earlier, but there were millions of folks already here, which the Spanish later murdered and infected with diseases the natives had no immunity for.

I lost a friend last year when I wished everyone a Happy Native American Day instead.  He insisted that Columbus Day is actually a day that honors the contributions of all Italian-Americans to America's history.

I was never taught that.  No one ever alluded to that.  He is Italian-American and grew up in an Italian-American neighborhood, so he had access to information never shared with me in the South.  When I explained that to him, he became insulting and said his opinion of me was drastically reduced.  I replied that I no longer had an opinion of him, and I dropped him.

I absolutely love Italy and Italians, but I despise morons.

I am really concerned that no one seems to be discussing the possibility/probability that Vladimir Putin is behind the Hamas attacks on Israel.

My reason:  What better way to deflect U.S. aid to the Ukraine than by supporting the Hamas attack on Israel which will divert funds/weapons to that country.
