Anent DR George's tale of the miscreant fountain pen:

Am I the only dear reader who feared his tale would reveal he was afflicted with a major ink stain on his shirt pocket?

Instead, his nibs were ruined.  Or was his nibs ruined?  Or does anyone ever use his nibs in a sentence any longer?

Yesterday, after doing the laundry, I found a click pen at the bottom of the washer AFTER removing the cleaned load from the tub.

I have never heard of closing when it isn't raining.  Do they offer a free wash if it rains within x number of hours?

I had never heard of it, either. No, Idon’t believe they offer that.

Then it is very strange they could only do a hand wash.

They were closed, but had access to water and soap.

Miraculously, the pen still works AND it did not stain the laundry OR the washer.

I have been watching Our Miracle Years, a German series on PBS, part of the Walter Presents collection. It’s very good. It’s a story about a German family just after WWII. Worth watching.

This sounds good.  Do you mean Our wonderful years?

No, Our Miracle Years.

I feared the same. Giant ink stain.

YES!  And, while it's gratifying to know it was only a damaged nib that was experienced, I must say I was a bit disappointed in the denouement.

You are very lucky. A few months ago I was taking a load of towels out of the dryer and found black streaks over many of my towels. A pen must have been in one of the machines, but  I never saw it. The streaks eventually washed out.

The pen was in my pants pocket, so my fear was that it would leak onto my jeans.

I've had pens in high school and college that would leak and I'd get ink all over my leg as well as the pocket and pants. :P

Watching the original The Cotton Club. I knew it was a mess, but the energy and the musical numbers were so good that I watched it twice.

And fortunately, only one pen fell on the floor, so only one nib was ruined.

The re-edited version has more Gregory Hines, but the energy isn’t quite as good.
