Last night we went to dinner at a local pub, our first time eating there, with two other couples.

After dinner we moved to the back room to attend an even/town hall meeting with our local congresswoman.

This is the woman who barely beat the nazi running against her in the last election.  Once again he is running against her.  It is scary.

I spent the afternoon doing more tossing — my own stuff. How does it pile up so quickly? It always takes longer to go through than I anticipate, too. I’m only half-way through what I thought I could get through today. Sigh.

Yes, a very interesting development. So many unprecedented legal issues. Lots of work for the attorneys. And lots of sitting on the edge of our seats for many of us.

Watching Downhill, a silent Hitchcock film that’s an extra on the Criterion release of The Lodger. Both star Ivor Novello.

A prostitute lures a pair of young college boys to her lair and plays the song “ I Want Some Money” on her Victrola.

Slept for two hours. Dog's had second meal. I'll know once she's gone if this is allergies (remember, this has been going on for nine days now) or Covid. I'm just really tried of feeling like this.

While I think this is great I do wonder how it can be legal.  I'll have to read more about it.

Colorado’s Supreme Court has ruled that Trump is not allowed to be on their primary Presidential ballot because he participated in an insurrection. This is based on The 14th Amendment:

Fourteenth Amendment  Equal Protection and Other Rights

Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

However, Trump will take the case to SCOTUS, so the Supreme Court will decide.

The only soap opera that I ever watched was Santa Barbara.

I found it delightfully quirky and witty.

His passion is actually Shakespeare.

I was fortunate to see him as Hamlet and as Macbeth in Los Angeles. He was fantastic.

He’s still performing Shakespeare. Here’s a review from this summer in Thousand Oaks.

“Lane Davies is Lear. As he gives in to his frailties we see the strength leaving him, the bones becoming brittle and his mind diminishes. It’s a wonderfully wrought performance. Proud and pompous at first, then confused and heartbroken.  As he tries to reason his way through his daughters’ betrayal, resisting at first the obvious rebukes, he must face it all in the end. The final insult breaks him, body and spirit and he wanders sadly, bewildered by his rapid fall…it’s both terrifying and wonderful to watch and Lane Davies gives a spectacular performance as this sad and bedraggled king.”

Reading different parts of Hitchcock/Truffaut. In the last chapter, Truffaut writes that Hitchcock dropped the Bernard Hermann score for Torn Curtain because the studios wanted it discarded. “We must bear in mind here that in 1966, in Hollywood and elsewhere, it was the practice of the film industry to favor scores that would sell as popular records—the kind of film music that could be danced to in discotheques. In this sort of game, Hermann, a disciple of Wagner and Stravinsky, was bound to be a loser.”

Downhill was early Hitchcock. Interesting but a bit of a bore.

Now listening to Hitchcock and Peter Bogdanovich talk about the early pictures.
