From yesterday:

We definitely had Christmas albums, but my memory will be vague on what they all were. I’ll hazard a guess that most were from the Columbia Record Club. If Mitch Miller issued one, my dad would certainly have had it. Andy Williams, probably. Maybe that Firestone series? I don’t think we had anything as avant garde as Elvis, but who knows.

On a more sacred bent, I was personally enamored of Messiah and Amahl and the Night Visitors.

If logs sleep, I don't believe they could do it any better than I did last night.

I feel refreshed and alert.   Alas, I am still NOT in the Christmas spirit.

What will it take, I wonder?

With only an exception or two, this here blog has been replete with one-liners from the git-go.

We had the Ormandy Messiah, but I think another recording preceded it. Later I gravitated to the Robert Shaw one on RCA. The Amahl was the early 1960s one which was the production I would have seen on TV. I never had the original one till much later.

I loved the Nutcracker. I started with the Ansermet recording on London which is still a favorite, a second favorite being Arthur Fiedler’s excerpted version.

I think it's time to trot out this annual line:

If you've seen one Christmas opera, you've seen Amahl.

TOD - a quick, full-price, no-strings-attached offer on our old house that proceeds to a smooth closing early in 2024.

Bruce: The weather forecast for your neck of the woods looks pretty grim today.  Massive amounts of rain and flooding are expected.

Stay to the high ground, please.  Carry an umbrella.

Yesterday, when I saw my podiatrist, I tld her about my fall. She checked my ankle and sent me off for an X-ray. Nothing was broken, but I do have a sprained ankle.
