After "True Detective: Night Country", I decided to give "Monsieur Spade" a shot (AMC+).

I like Clive Owen, but there were several things that put me off.  First, there is way too much reading needed by the viewer just to get the story started.  Short sentences stating and re-stating things (with minor adjustments) intended, I think, to amuse the viewer.  Je ne suis pas amusé!

Second, there seem to be about 15 or 20 "Executive Producers" you have to get through before the rest of the credits play out.  There are several times more producers than cast members.

And then the story starts off slowly.  Sam is retired in France, has charge of a little girl and is supposed to deliver her to her father.  No one wishes to cooperate.

I was in no mood....

I'd be curious (maybe it's been discussed here before) how you or BK or anyone here feel or did feel about what seemed to be a lot of narration in the movie "Barbie."

My impressions of "Barbie" were that it was a wonder of production design, but it rather left me a bit disappointed in the end.  The narration wasn't an issue for me, however.

Thanks for answering, Ron!

DR Vixmom when do you plan to leave for Florida?  Are you waiting until after the baby arrives or do you plan to head out once you know the Vixter is in labor?

We're arriving there on the 27th and leave on Feb 10th

The Vixter has been given strict instructions to deliver one grandson during that time period.

Beats me, I'm pretty sure the just started kindergarten the other day

I also didn't mind the narration in BARBIE.....my favorite part was the songs of the KENS.....and poor Allen.....but that's just me.

And of course....Weird Barbie.

Allen and Weird Barbie were fun!

Thanks, everyone! Just heard that mom made it through the surgery just fine and is now in recovery, awaiting assignment to a room.

They are planning to start physical therapy this afternoon (!) and will determine if she can go home Thursday or Friday, which was expected.

Romeo Cascarino, whom BK told us about the other day, is the real deal. What fresh, wonderful music! Incredible that he was self-taught.

I'm surprised they didn't make her walk out of the operating room, Singdaw.

I'm glad she did well.

I'm trying to get back into my daily walking schedule. When we had our cold snap here after Christmas, I got lazy.

BK - another "unknown" American composer in a lyrical mode is Robert Baksa, who just died in 2023 at age 86. His chamber music is charming.
