I’m ushering for Les Ballets Trokadero de Monte Carlo. I hear they’re sensational. It’s an all-male troupe performing all the parts in classical ballet.

I had a major panic attack late last night and it wasn't pretty. I am quite worried about things.

So sorry to hear of Peter Schickele's death. He was not only a brilliant musicologist and hysterically funny gentleman, he was very kind and generous and a brilliant composer and arranger. I used to see him often at Associated vMusic, which was run by my friend Judy Haring. He gave us tickets to the premiere of PDQ Bach's Oedipus Tex at Carnegie Hall. Dana Kruger as Madame Bo-Peep. the village seeress, sang to Oedipus:
You murdered your father and married your mother?
You rascal! You're my kind of guy.

Several years ago, I called Peter to tell hm how much I loved his opera The Abduction of Figaro, and I asked him about some of his recordings that never made it to CD, like the incidental musical for The Knight of the Burning Pestle. Not long after that, I received several homemade CDs in the mail. He will be missed

I think the first time I saw Peter's name as an arranger was for Buffy St. Marie's wonderful recording of Joni Mitchell's "The Circle Game," which played at the end of the movie The Strawberry Statement. He also wrote the wonderful charts for Joan Baez' Christmas album, Noël.

I interviewed Schickele in the early 1980s for the college paper. He was funny and humble and sweet. I, of course, wanted to talk about Oh! Calcutta! as well as P.D.Q. Bach.

I think I will second DR GEORGE's posts for my answer to the TOD.

But all of favorites mentioned so far can also be included.

West Side Story and Candide are probably at the top for me.

Is it anything like Zaxby's?   They are big in these here parts.  Great salads.

Today is cubed steak day at the Triangle Restaurant.

They really know how to cook cubed steak...and the gravy is scrumptious.

I will venture out to the post office in about an hour and then head on over to the Triangle for my Thursday luncheon repast.

It is currently 33 degrees and sunny in Johnston SC.  Today's high should soar to about 52 degrees.  Tonight is anyone's guess, but we have colder air moving in for the weekend.

TOD:

"Candide" is my favorite Bernstein score.  Bar none.  Yes, I love "West Side Story", but I prefer "Candide" in its 70s incarnation...the story is so vividly told through the songs.

"Make Our Garden Grow" is a particular favorite.

DR Rodzinski:  A foot of snow, huh?  Gosh!

I guess there are risks to living so near Canada!!

I haven't seen that much snow since the winter of 1978 when I went to Naval Training Center Great Lakes for an instructor training course.  It was in late January, and Chicago and environs had gotten a "major" New year's ever1977 snowstorm.  People tunneled out of their homes...you could just see the tops of people's heads as they walked along sidewalks.  It was like that at Great Lakes, too.  And cold.  VERY cold.

I lived in Chicagoland at the time of that blizzard. I could go into my backyard and have my whole self sink into the snow. 1977 had a bad one too.

I bought The Wurst of PDQ Bach as a teenager. A nice overview. “My Bonnie Lass She Smelleth” was a fave. Plus the pun-filled “Oratorio: The Seasonings.” Bide Thy Thyme, Peter.

Thursday morning greetings!  I have a previously-scheduled routine appointment with our primary care physician this afternoon that I’m glad to be able to keep.  No major concerns, but I’ll be glad to be checked out after our recent illness.
