Now, let's get to the second SNAFU of the day:
American Express called and left a message that I must call them ASAP.
Why?
Well, first I had to do an identity check for them. Once they knew I was me, I was told that someone had tried to use my card on January 18th to place a food order with Shopify (in Canada!!!).
On January 18, as it turns out, I had placed an online order with MiLa Chinese food company, for dumplings and noodles (I love their product). Is it only a coincidence that MiLa is in Washington state and that the attempted food order was on the same date as the order I placed with them? Happily, AMEX did not accept that particular order since it was for food delivery and I am in South Caroline whereas the food was going to be delivered to someone in Washington state!!!
All that said, my American Express card will now be replaced. Sigh. They are also implementing more stringent security measures, which means I will likely get refusals of payment until i verify, via text message, that it is me using the card.
Sigh. Not ideal for "online" orders, but it safeguards my credit line.
