What would you call a cluster of vamps?

A vampile.

Dancing at the moving picture ball
Some scenario
Great big stars paraded 'round the hall
They were merry, Oh

Handsome Wallace Reid
Stepped out full of speed
And Theda Bara, Was a terror
She "vamped the little lady"
So did Alice Brady;

Douglas Fairbanks shimmied on one hand
Like an acrobat
Mary Pickford did a toe dance grand and

Charlie Chaplin with his feet
Stepped all over poor Blanche Sweet
Dancing at that moving picture ball

That song, which I learned from George Segal’s LP “A Touch of Ragtime,” was my intro to Theda Bara.

Ev'ry girl
A handsome looker
Had a dance
With Mister Zukor

Mister Thomas Ince
Stepped around just like a prince

William Fox
And Jessie Lasky
Both joined in the fun

I remember a musical call Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi. Jeff Hochshartner was one of the writers. It had promise but just disappeared.

I once met Lillian Gish during a press conference at a retro movie theater that was honoring her with a D.W. Griffith Award. This was Kentucky, after all, and he hadn’t been cancelled back then.

The young lady at the insurance agency said "they've been having problems with their printing machine" so she was happy to take my check and give me a receipt.

I’m sure I forgot many more. But the screwball comedy greats were indeed great.
